SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Reaches $1 Billion Box Office

By Movieguide® Staff

SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME officially grossed $1 billion globally in 12 days, making it the first movie since 2019 to cross that threshold.

Only two movies – predecessors AVENGERS: ENDGAME and AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR – reached the milestone faster.

According to the Movieguide® review:

SPIDER-MAN:  NO WAY HOME is a wild ride. As the movie opens, Peter and his friends, MJ and Ned, are suffering the consequences of Mysterio’s lies from the last SPIDER-MAN movie. Because of the controversy Mysterio created, none of them are accepted into any colleges, including their first choice, MIT. Always thinking about his friends, Peter asks Dr. Strange for a spell to make everyone forget Peter Parker is Spider-Man. However, the spell goes wrong and starts bringing supervillains from other universes into Peter’s world.

SPIDER-MAN:  NO WAY HOME is filled with fun surprises and twists, plus lots of action. There’s plenty of serious jeopardy leading to stirring, sad and tearful moments. The performances are perfectly melded with the story’s twists and turns, including some surprise appearances. NO WAY HOME has a strong moral, redemptive premise that everyone deserves a second chance, even supervillains. In the movie, Aunt May inspires Peter to do the right thing and give the supervillains a second chance to set things right. SPIDER-MAN:  NO WAY HOME has many light obscenities and profanities, intense action violence and occult content.

Though there is some gratuitous content, NO WAY HOME’s success proves that moviegoers will turn out for redemptive messages on screen.

“I’ve loved every minute of it. I’ve been so grateful to Marvel and Sony for giving us the opportunity and keeping us on and allowing our characters to progress. It’s been amazing,” Holland said.

On Instagram, the actor wrote: “I can’t believe we actually did it. Sharing the screen and my life with these incredible people has been nothing short of life changing. This movie is a labour of love a celebrates three generations of cinema. It truly is a dream come true and I’m forever grateful for all the love and support we’ve received over the years. We love you and thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Enjoy the movie. P.S. Bring tissues!”

While Holland has hinted that he may be finished as Peter Parker, producer Amy Pascal says otherwise.

“This is not the last movie that we are going to make with Marvel — [this is not] the last Spider-Man movie,” Pascal said an in interview with Fandango. “We are getting ready to make the next Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland and Marvel. We’re thinking of this as three films, and now we’re going to go on to the next three. This is not the last of our MCU movies.”

Movieguide® previously select Holland’s SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME as one of Best Movies for Mature Audiences at the Movieguide® Awards Gala and Report to the Entertainment Industry.
