Ex-Porn Star Wants to Help Christians Break Their Pornography Addictions

Ex-porn star Brittni De La Mora now undertakes a mission to save Christians from pornography and point them to Christ.

De La Mora and her husband, Richard, recently released a new anti-porn course called “Search: How To Stop Watching Porn.”

“I was in the adult film industry for seven years of my life. I felt like, ‘This is everything that I’ve been looking for in life. This is where I’m going to find love, and affirmation, and attention,'” De La Mora said in an interview with Faithwire. “But I didn’t find that there. I actually had to start using drugs very early on in the porn industry just to get through the scenes.”

After three-and-a-half years in the porn industry, De La Mora accepted an invitation from a friend to attend church. While at church, De La Mora began to understand what it means to accept Jesus.

“I started just to devour the Bible,” De La Mora said. “God was right there with me in the middle of the sin.”

De La Mora left the industry after realizing that her actions negatively affected her and the people who watched her films.

“[I realized], ‘Not only has my sin broken my life, but I’m leading others into a broken life,'” she said. “‘I don’t want to live this life anymore.'”

She and her husband are now on a mission to help others escape the evils of pornography.

“Porn right now is just an epidemic. Not just to the world, but to the body of Christ,” Richard said. “If we do not broach this conversation, then we are going to see a lot of bound Christians.”

Movieguide® previously reported on the De La Moras’ ministry:

“Purity is not (just) ‘no sex before marriage,'” Richard said. “Purity is a lifestyle where we have a pure heart, a pure mind, and we have a pure approach in all things that we do.”

Brittni added that living a pure life, in accordance with God’s word, only happens when we entirely rely on God’s power and the accountability of fellow believers striving towards the same goal.

“It’s hard, and it’s not easy,” Brittni said. “But with God all things are possible. And so, what you need to do if you want to walk in purity – if this is the desire of your heart – you want to honor God with your body. You need accountability and you need to just set clear basic boundaries.”
Brittni added: “If holding hands is too much for you, don’t do it. Set yourself up to succeed. Don’t set yourself up for failure.”

Richard is adamant that believers should use time spent as a single person for self-evaluation before seeking a relationship.

“If you want to be with the right person, you need to be the right person,” Richard said.

“Also, in the time of singleness, you need to check your heart. I think there’s areas where you need to check your baggage out and see those areas in your life because oftentimes, we’ll go from relationship to relationship and the reality is that they’re not the problem – you are.”

Brittni said: “In the season of being single you’re not only getting to know God, but you are getting to know yourself. And you need to love yourself because if you can’t love yourself and date yourself then why is anyone else going to want to try to love and date you?”

The De La Moras’ aren’t the only ones trying to alert people to the dangers of sexual content. Movieguide® previously reported:

While objecting to violence in the media has become politically correct, concern about pornography and obscenity in the mass media is much more pronounced among moral conservatives, particularly Christians. In response to those few people who hold to the myth that pornography is essentially harmless, Dr. Victor B. Cline has said:

“For someone to suggest that pornography cannot have an effect on you is to deny not only its unique educative impact but to deny the whole notion of the educative process itself. . . . If you say that a pornographic book can’t affect you, then you also have to say that Karl Marx’s DAS KAPITAL or the Bible or the Koran also have had no effects on their readers. And that’s nonsense. . . .

“Or consider also the spread of sex education instruction throughout schools in the U.S. The assumption is that you can change attitudes and behavior about sex through some form of teaching and instruction. If you assume that this is so, then you have to admit to the possibility that films, magazines and books which model rape and the dehumanization of females in sexual scenes are another powerful form of sex education. And, thus, educate too.

“Many of the educated commentators or even ‘experts’ that I know who suggest that pornography has no effects − really don’t believe what they are saying, or they will reluctantly admit to the possibility of harm from just ‘violent pornography.’ In many cases they are pretending ‘not to know’ because of their concern about censorship, and loss of First Amendment rights. Thus, for some of them, the issue is really political. It also has to do with their personal values – and much less with what the objective truth is. They fear the tyranny of a moralist minority who might take away their rights to view pornography, then, later maybe, free speech and expression.”
