Disney’s Interest in the LGBT Agenda Will Ostracize Majority Crowd

Disney is no stranger to the No. 1 spot at the box office, with ownership of major franchises like Star Wars and the Marvel Cinematic Universe and an extensive catalog of classics, remakes and original Pixar movies.

Even amid COVID-19 related theater closures, Disney raked in $1.17 billion at the box office in Canada and the United States, according to Statista.

According to Box Office Mojo, 8 of the top 10 weekend performers in cinema history are owned by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The list includes Marvel’s AVENGERS: ENDGAME, STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, and Disney’s remake of THE LION KING.

However, after a recent letter from LGBTQ employees working at Pixar Animation Studios, Disney announced that it would restore a same-sex kiss between two female characters that was initially pulled from the upcoming LIGHTYEAR.

The letter of outrage accused Disney of cutting intimate scenes between same-sex characters from their children’s movies.

“We at Pixar have personally witnessed beautiful stories, full of diverse characters, come back from Disney corporate reviews shaved down to crumbs of what they once were,” the letter, issued on March 9, read. “Even if creating LGBTQIA+ content was the answer to fixing the discriminatory legislation in the world, we are being barred from creating it.”

The letter also stated that Disney Company leadership censored “overtly gay affection” in its feature-length movies.

The uproar from Pixar employees comes after Florida governor Ron DeSantis passed a parental rights bill that opposition called the “Don’t Say Gay” bill.

Despite the mainstream narrative, the bill’s official title is Parental Rights in Education, and “bans school employees or third parties from giving classroom instruction on ‘sexual orientation’ or ‘gender identity’ in kindergarten through third grade,” Fox News reported

Although the word “gay” cannot be found in the new bill, many condemned DeSantis and the bill, claiming it is anti-LGBTQIA+.

“Does it say that in the bill?” DeSantis asked, in a press conference when a reporter called it the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill. “We’re going to make sure that parents are able to send their kid to kindergarten without having some of this stuff injected into their school curriculum.”

While the bill may protect children in school for a time, it is clear that Disney is finally folding under internal and external pressure from the LGBTQIA+ community.

In the past, Disney leadership understood that to cut intimate same-sex affection in their projects opens their movies up to the majority audience.

While Walt Disney Company held its ground to focus on story versus sexuality in the past, LIGHTYEAR could mark a significant turning point.

Variety recently reported

It’s unclear why a studio that has imbued multi-dimensional life into everything from plastic toys to the concepts of sadness and joy would be stumped by how to create an LGBTQ character without a love interest. But it also appears Pixar has had difficulty incorporating queer representation even as part of the background. Multiple sources told Variety that efforts to include signifiers of LGBTQ identity in the set design of films located in specific American cities known for sizable LGBTQ populations — namely, 2020’s “Soul” (in New York City) and 2015’s “Inside Out” (in San Francisco) — were shot down. One source said that a rainbow sticker placed in the window of a shop was removed because it was deemed too ‘distracting.’

Other sources said same-sex couples were also removed from the background from these films, though a studio insider insists they do appear in ‘Soul.’ (A review of the film by Variety noted a few examples of two women sitting or standing in close proximity with each other in shots that last less than a second, but the nature of their relationship is ambiguous.)

However, by catering to a small minority of moviegoers, Disney would ostracize one of their largest audiences: Christians who believe in biblical truth.

According to Gallup, 7% of Americans identify as something other than heterosexual. Gallup also reported that in 2021, 69% of Americans identify as Christian. From a logistical standpoint, it makes sense that studios want to target the largest audiences.

According to Movieguide®’s 2022 Report To The Entertainment Industry, “92% of the Top 25 Movies had no sexual content or immorality or only light or implied sexual content (No S or S).”

The report continues: “Only one, or 4% of the Top 25 Movies, had any depicted sexual nudity in them (NN or NNN), so 96% had no sexual nudity whatsoever! Happily, nearly three-quarters, 72%, of the Top 25 Movies had no homosexual content whatsoever! Only 12% of the Top 25 had any strong or very strong homosexual references or content in them promoting homosexual behavior (HoHo or HoHoHo), but another 16% had some light or implied homosexual references or content (Ho).”

Disney’s failure to uphold moral truth is common among many companies today. Perhaps more sinister is that the studios and streamers’ open attack against Christianity and the truth of God’s word through their TV, Movies, and other media begins with children’s content.

With LIGHTYEAR, Disney would join Netflix, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, and other companies in overt over-sexualization of animated content or content geared toward younger audiences.

Discernment is essential for parents now more than ever. While Disney executives held their ground for a time, they could put innocent minds in danger with future content.
