A WEEK AWAY Actor Found Faith While On Set of Movieguide Award-Nominated Flick

Actor Kevin Quinn revealed that his time on the A WEEK AWAY set rekindled his relationship with Christ.

“Faith is a very important part of my life, if not the most important part of my life,” Quinn told Movieguide®. “But it wasn’t always that way. And there was a struggle, really, in my early 20s, where I had kind of shunned the idea of faith.”

A WEEK AWAY is nominated for multiple Movieguide® Awards and will be included in Movieguide®’s Movies that Inspire on the REELZ Channel on Easter Sunday at 3 p.m. ET.

According to the Movieguide® review:

A WEEK AWAY is a musical streaming on Netflix. Will is a troubled teenager who’s committed crimes and caused problems at schools and in foster homes throughout his life. When a family offers to put him in a Christian summer camp rather than being sent to juvenile detention, Will agree with trepidation. Will arrives at camp and meets Avery. Avery has a twinkle in her eye, and Will likes her but another teenage boy, Sean, is interested in her as well. Will wonders if he will be able to connect with Avery and wonders if she will accept his troubled past.

A WEEK AWAY is a fun, exciting, enjoyable Christian musical that families will love. All of the songs are catchy and well done. The movie talks about some real hardships of sickness and death, but shows that God is near to those who call to Him. The movie also shows one character turning to Christ and finding joy and peace through his transformation. A WEEK AWAY is a great option for the older children and family to enjoy and sing along.

Quinn hopes that the movie encourages young people not to be afraid of the idea of faith.

“It sounds so cliche, but you know, with the timing of A WEEK AWAY and the stuff that I was dealing with personally, God really did bring this project at the perfect time and it was a complete reintroduction to my own faith,” Quinn said. “As I look back on this project, I don’t believe in coincidences, not anymore at least, and it was all too coincidental that this project had come into my life when it did. So [my] faith is very important.”

While Quinn performs songs in the movie, A WEEK AWAY also features music from various Christian artists such as Steven Curtis Chapman, for KING & COUNTRY, Amy Grant, and Michael W. Smith.

Christian Headlines reported

Quinn said the film has multiple themes, although ‘one of the most important messages’ – especially for teens – ‘is don’t be afraid of faith.’

‘Because it can be scary and intimidating,’ Quinn said. ‘… Trust that He has your best interest at heart. Your faith journey is your journey. And no one can take that away from you. No one can negate it. And don’t be afraid to embrace it. And I think people are sometimes afraid that it’s, like, taboo or unacceptable. It’s not.’

Co-star Bailee Madison, who is known for her BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA role, added that she jumped at the opportunity to help bring to life a movie that contains faith and is safe for the whole family.

“My journey with my faith has been a very personal one that I’m really grateful for,” Madison, a previous guest at the Movieguide® Awards, said. “But if there’s ever a moment, especially being 21 and trying to navigate this business, that I can share that side of my heart, and also just make a film for the whole family to get to sit down and love and enjoy and not be bored and be entertained and hold all of those things. It’s a no-brainer for me and my heart and my whole family. So I was thrilled when the script fell in my lap.”
