Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick Blasts Disney Decision to Oppose Parental Rights Legislation

By Movieguide® Staff

After Disney’s open condemnation of Florida’s recent Parents Rights in Education bill, referred to by opposition as the “don’t say gay” bill, Texas Republican Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick vowed to pass a similar law.

Patrick made his disapproval of Disney’s decision known by the title of a recent campaign release, “I Am Done With Disney!”

“Like so many, I have been a Disney fan my entire life,” Patrick wrote. “As a child, I loved Davy Crockett with Fess Parker and watched the Wonderful World of Disney. As a parent and grandparent who has taken his family to Disney World multiple times, I am angry. At first, I was angry at their over-the-top radical resistance to a Florida law that simply says schools cannot sexualize children in elementary school.

“I will make this law a top priority in the next session,” the document continued. “This issue will be addressed in our interim Education Committee hearings under Parental Rights. But now private videos from Disney officials have emerged where they purposely plan to indoctrinate my grandkids and your children and grandchildren on the issue of sexuality. Just this week, they also announced they will no longer address anyone with the greeting ‘boys and girls’ and ‘ladies and gentlemen’ at their parks. This crazy … agenda is pushed by a few, but rejected by almost everyone in America, across all political spectrums.

“Parents trusted the Disney brand, all while Disney was undermining parents who believed Disney was a quality and good company,” Patrick added.

Patrick also called on Texas residents to stand against Disney in a “polite, but clear” manner.

The document also offered a list of legislative changes for the Texas State Senate’s interim session.

Patrick noted that Florida’s bill and the potential for similar legislation in Texas is meant to provide parents with the tools to teach their children.

“Make recommendations to enable parents to exert a greater influence on their child’s learning environment, including enacting meaningful change at their public school campus or district, and affirm parents as primary decision-makers over their child’s schooling options,” the document read.

Movieguide® previously responded to Disney’s decision to promote the LGBTQ+ agenda in their content:

While the bill may protect children in school for a time, it is clear that Disney is finally folding under internal and external pressure from the LGBTQIA+ community.

In the past, Disney leadership understood that to cut intimate same-sex affection in their projects opens their movies up to the majority audience.

While Walt Disney Company held its ground to focus on story versus sexuality in the past, LIGHTYEAR could mark a significant turning point.

Disney’s failure to uphold moral truth is common among many companies today. Perhaps more sinister is that the studios and streamers’ open attack against Christianity and the truth of God’s word through their TV, Movies, and other media begins with children’s content.

With LIGHTYEAR, Disney would join Netflix, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, and other companies in overt over-sexualization of animated content or content geared toward younger audiences.
