What TV Dad Bob Saget Taught FULL HOUSE’s Jodie Sweetin

By Movieguide® Contributor

FULL HOUSE star Jodie Sweetin opened up about the parenting lessons she learned from her TV dad, the late Bob Saget.

“I understood that, when I had kids, you can joke with them, you can have real conversations,” the actress said while appearing on the Conversations With Olivia Jade podcast.

Sweetin said Saget carried this idea over into his interactions with his real-life kids.

“He didn’t talk to them like they were idiots — and he did the same with me,” Sweetin shared. “He treated me with respect as a young person, and so did John [Stamos] and Dave [Coulier].”

The actress also shared how her FULL HOUSE co-stars helped her learn how to use humor as a parent.

“[Saget, Stamos, and Coulier] brought a level of humor to my parenting that my kids are also inheriting [which] is both good and bad,” Sweetin joked. “I learned a lot from them, and I continue to.”

Saget’s untimely death inspired Sweetin to really take his parenting advice to heart.

Sweetin previously shared her feelings on Saget’s death in an Instagram post, writing:

Bob was a wonderful human being. A human being that could drive you nuts at times, and he knew it, but who was so genuine that you couldn’t even get that frustrated. Someone who would also call and profusely apologize for at LEAST 15 minutes if he thought he MAY have perhaps said something he shouldn’t have or thought maybe he took a joke too far. He was a genuinely kind spirit who made it through so much in his life, and was most happy when he was helping others. Whether it was personally or through SO many of his different avenues of philanthropy.

I would always say “you’re the best TV dad ever”. And he was.

I’ll miss you Bob.
