GAC Media’s Bill Abbott Announces New App With Original Content, Fan Forums, And More

GAC Media CEO Bill Abbott recently announced plans for a new app that would allow users access to original short-form content and a social media forum. 

The app, called the Great American Community, will feature about 200 hours of exclusive content from contributors like Cameron Mathison, Shirley Bovshow, Kym Douglas, Maria Provenzano, Larissa Wohl, Lawrence Zarian, Toya Boudy, Amber Kemp-Gerstel, Emily Hutchinson, Jen Lilley, Jill Wagner, and Danica McKellar, to name a few. 

“Fans are interacting with content in different ways and we think this is the perfect time for this type of app to enter the scene,” Abbott said of the new app. “I don’t think it’s ever been done in this way. We can pull this together because of our talent relationship, a really unique group that will be creating a lot of content for us.”

According to Broadcasting + Cable, the new app will be free upon release, with premium tiers that have exclusive content that users will have to pay for.

In addition to shows, movies, and fan forums, Great American Community will also have a Giving and Caring feature that will raise awareness for charitable causes. 

“At Hallmark, we had our pet rescue initiative but there were many others that we wanted to do, from autism to breast cancer, and yet, your promotional ability is really limited,” Abbot explained. “In digital, it’s unlimited what you can do and Giving and Caring gives us an opportunity to give back in a way that is a big part of our corporate culture. Ultimately, we have a plan to donate a certain amount of our profit back to different charities. We think that we can do a lot of good in that way.”

“In a world, where awareness is very hard to gain, having a platform like this does a lot of good things for the brand and organizationally for us that we need right now,” he concluded.

Candace Cameron Bure became the latest Hallmark star to sign on with GAC Media. The company just announced that Bure signed a deal to develop, produce, and star in new movies for the family-friendly network.

Bure added:  “I’m very excited to develop heartwarming family and faith-filled programming and make the kind of stories my family and I love to watch,” Bure said.  “I am constantly looking for ways that I can inspire people to live life with purpose.  GAC fits my brand perfectly; we share a vision of creating compelling wholesome content for an audience who wants to watch programming for and with the whole family.  Great, quality entertainment with a positive message is what my partnership with GAC is all about!”
