Mike Myers Would Be ‘Thrilled’ To Do More SHREK Movies

By Movieguide® Contributor

There are millions of SHREK fans all over the world, and it looks like Mike Myers is one of them!

The actor, who voices the iconic green ogre, recently talked about the role in an interview with GQ.

“The Euro-centric form that is the fairytale is really about classicism,” Myers shared. “When I was approached to do SHREK I originally did it as a Canadian and then I re-recorded it as Scottish because that seemed to be the most working class [accent]. I also love the Scottish people. I have  Scottish ancestry. I’m mostly English but Liverpool is the pool of life between Scotland, England, and Ireland.”

He continued, “There’s an emotional center there. You know the old  joke: I wouldn’t want to be a member of a club that would have me as a member. I have always felt that way. The concept of going from a self-loathing ogre to a self-accepting ogre was meaningful to me.”

“I love playing Shrek,” the actor finished. “If I had to do one SHREK a year I’d be thrilled.”

The first Shrek movie was released in 2001 and was chosen by Movieguide® as the best movie for families that year.

Movieguide®’s review for the first movie reads

SHREK is thoroughly enjoyable on nearly every level. The script is very funny, although it crosses the line in good taste a little bit a couple times or so. Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy as a talkative donkey make a delightful comic team. John Lithgow as the evil king, and Cameron Diaz as the princess add a lot to this mix. In fact, the story of SHREK turns out to be quite a sweet, heartwarming morality tale about learning to love and be loved and looking beyond outward appearances to the inner beauty inside. The animation in SHREK is also superb. Not even a few PG elements can spoil all the fun.
