Singer Macy Gray Labeled ‘Transphobic’ After Comments About What Defines a Woman

By Movieguide® Staff

Singer Macy Gray recently stated that men cannot become women based on identity or surgery and that being a female is a “unique experience.”

The former Movieguide® Award Gala Attendee talked with TV host Piers Morgan about the transgender movement and quickly came under fire for her views.

“I will say this — and everybody’s going to hate me. As a woman, just because you go change your parts doesn’t make you a woman. Sorry,” Gray said. “I know that for a fact. If you want me to call you a ‘her,’ I will because that’s what you want. But that doesn’t make you a woman just because I call you a ‘her’ and just because you got a surgery.”

“Being a little girl is a whole epic book,” she added. “And you can’t have that just because you want to be a woman.”

Morgan agreed with Gray and noted the steep consequences for those who express their position on the transgender topic that is contrary to the LGBTQ+ agenda, like Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling.

“Macy Gray, as she predicted, is already being abused, hounded, shamed [and] branded ‘transphobic’ by the usual vile, vicious mob who attack women that defend women’s rights,” Morgan said. “I stand with you.”

Rowling also spoke up in a Tweet of her own, which read: “Today feels like a good day to ensure I’ve bought [Macy Gray’s] entire back catalogue.”

Regardless of the ridicule, Gray said “it’s the truth,” and she will stand by her opinion that biological sex is not a choice.
