"A Life-Changing Friendship"

Watch:

What You Need To Know:

GIGI & NATE is a life-affirming drama about a young man whose life changes after an accident. After college-bound Nate gets water in his brain from a cliff jump, he gets meningitis and is left a quadriplegic. His family rallies together to care for him. Nate’s mother decides to get him a small service monkey named Gigi. Just as the bond between Nate and Gigi is formed, an animal activist petitions the government to ban these types of service monkeys.

GIGI & NATE is a well-made, entertaining movie. It makes good use of a limited budget. GIGI & NATE has a strong Christian, pro-family worldview with prayer and themes of serving others. The movie shows a family’s love for a sick family member and caring for him in the midst of hardship. The movie has some commentary supporting a smaller government, because the government is interfering with Nate’s ownership of Gigi. There’s one scene where Nate goes to a party and drinks, but this is rebuked. GIGI & NATE also has lots of light foul language. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for older children.

GIGI & NATE is a life-affirming drama about a young man whose life changes completely after an accident leaves him a quadriplegic, with a service monkey to help him. GIGI & NATE is a well-made, entertaining movie with a strong Christian, pro-family worldview stressing prayer and caring for other people, but it has lots of light cursing and a party scene.

Nate has been enjoying the summer before his first year of college. When he cliff dives from a very high distance, he gets out of the water walking back to his home on the lake. Later that night, Nate gets a very odd feeling and ends up having a seizure on the ground. His family rushes him to the hospital, where the medical staff finds Nate got water into his brain, which caused some swelling. They helicopter Nate to a bigger hospital, which tells the family that Nate has meningitis and may not live. As his sister sits next to him, she begs him to live.

Months pass, and we find out that Nate has lived, but is now a quadriplegic. His life is completely different now, and he’s depressed and feeling hopeless. Nate’s mother, Claire, decides to take Nate to get a service animal, thinking it will lift his spirits.

Nate comes home with a monkey as a service animal. This little monkey, whom they name Gigi, is nervous about her new surroundings and takes some time to even come out of her cage. Gigi starts to observe everyone helping Nate, including his physical therapist and his nurse and mother.

Surprisingly, Gigi starts to help Nate with his fine motor skills, and he starts making improvements. Gigi and Nate have built up a deep connection, and she has helped him with his joy.

When Nate takes Gigi to the supermarket, an animal activist is there and tells them the monkey can’t be in the supermarket. Soon, the animal activist is finding problems with Gigi and Nate and decides to petition them being together saying that the type of monkey Gigi is should not be used as a service animal. Now, Nate must fight the regulations that could be placed on Gigi.
