Russell Wilson After Recent Loss: ‘I’m Grateful God’s Given Me The Chance To Play This Game’

NFL star Russell Wilson said that he remains grateful to God, even after a recent loss.

Wilson, playing for the Denver Broncos, returned to Seattle to face off against his former team, the Seahawks. The Broncos lost by just one point (17-16), but Wilson remained positive.

“They may cheer for you. They may boo you,” the football stat said of the fans.“They’ll love you one day, and they’ll hate you the next. That’s sports. At the end of the day, I’m going to keep competing. I’m going to keep battling. I know who I am. First of all, I think for me, I’m just grateful God’s given me the chance to play this game.”

Wilson led both teams in prayer after the game ended, and posted a tweet thanking God as well. He wrote, “God I thank you for it all! You are worthy of ALL my Praise!”

“I gave everything I had every day [with the Seahawks] … and God brought me somewhere else,” Wilson said during the post-game conference. “I’m here, I’m in Denver, and I’m excited about it. I’m excited where we’re going. I’m just grateful. I give the glory to God because He’s given me the gift of playing this game.”

He continued, “It’s all for His glory, and His glory alone. It’s not for anybody else’s. I play for an audience of One, and that’s just for Him. And so, I’m just grateful I get to be with these guys in this locker room. I’ve been around some amazing teammates in the past, and I’ve got some amazing teammates currently.”

Wilson frequently shows gratitude to God for his football career. Movieguide® previously reported:

Since the Seattle Seahawks drafted QB Russell Wilson in 2012, the team has avoided a losing record.

However, after a rocky start to the NFL season this year, Wilson and the Seahawks came away with a win against the San Francisco 49ers to bring their overall record to 2-2.

Aside from evading a 1-3 losing record, the win also marked a record-breaking statistic for Wilson. The pro-bowler became the fastest NFL QB to reach 100 career wins.

The outspoken Christian took to Twitter after the game and gave credit to Jesus.

“JESUS… YOU get ALL the Glory!!! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾,” Russell tweeted.

“That’s why I play the game, is to win. Just to be in great company with some amazing players in the history of this game … it’s pretty special,” he added in the post-game press conference.

“I think back to my Dad – when he used to wake me up in the morning – and before, I didn’t really want to wake up that early. He used to try to wake me up at 5:15, 5:30 in the morning and he’d knock on my door and say ‘Son, you want to be great?’ every day,” Wilson recalled. “I started answering the call, you know. I tried to be up earlier than him.”
