More Detail:

SGT. BILKO uses some cynical humor with the comedy of Steve Martin and Dan Aykroyd to push a heavy handed, anti-moral agenda honoring gambling, deceit and dishonesty. Bilko runs the motor pool at Ft. Baxter as if it was an illegal gambling operation. When straight arrow, Pvt. Holbrook, is assigned to the unit, it is clear that Holbrook has to re-think his commitment to the Ten Commandments or be reassigned. Meanwhile, Bilko faces his old nemesis, Major Thorn, whom Bilko outwitted in the past. Now, Thorn is back to expose Bilko’s misuse of Government funds, but Bilko is not easily defeated. A master of manipulation, he destroys Thorn for a second time and convinces Pvt. Holbrook, that dishonesty pays.

SGT. BILKO proclaims loud and clear that: dishonesty is the key to success; hedonism is the ultimate philosophy; rules are made to be broken; use the other guy before he uses you; and, abuse the system for profit. The problem is not the blatant immorality of the messages, but the fact that they are so carefully sugarcoated by clever humor and good acting. This movie will send the wrong messages to susceptible youth. Parents may enjoy it without adopting the underlying philosophy, but children may be influenced to model their lives after Bilko, a sad state of affairs indeed.
