Top Ten Movies About Real-Life American Heroes

By Movieguide® Contributor

It’s so important to celebrate heroism during trying political times. These movies honor American heroes who put their lives on the line for their fellow citizens. From brave soldiers taking on undercover missions to women stepping up to change the course of history for our country, these are the best of the best. Parents should use extreme caution even for older teens and adults because of mature and violent content.

SOUND OF FREEDOM

-2 Extreme caution for older teenagers and adults.
SOUND OF FREEDOM tells the true story of Tim Ballard, a former Homeland Security agent who puts his life on the line to rescue hundreds of children out of sex trafficking. SOUND OF FREEDOM is an incredible, gripping and heartbreaking, but hope-giving, movie with a strong Christian, moral that sheds light on the need for strong people to stand up for God’s children around the world who are caught in the vicious, abusive system of human trafficking, but MOVIEGUIDE® advises strong and extreme caution for the movie’s mature subject matter, some implied and depicted violence, implied abuse of children, and a scene of some bad guys using cocaine.

AMERICAN SNIPER

Quality:

Content:
-2 Extreme caution for older teenagers and adults.
AMERICAN SNIPER is an extremely well made, powerful, tragic movie about the most successful sniper in U.S. military history, who comes back from the Middle East a changed man. AMERICAN SNIPER has a lot of Christian faith and values, but there are a couple characters without faith and values, and the movie contains very strong violence and much gratuitous foul language, plus brief lewd content ad a couple bar scenes.

Well-directed and acted, with several emotional high points, THE 15:17 TO PARIS has a strong Christian, moral worldview promoting bravery and sacrifice, but some scenes warrant caution for children.

Quality:
****
Content:
-2 Extreme caution for older teenagers and adults.
LONE SURVIVOR is a gut-wrenching true story based on a failed military mission in Afghanistan where four Navy Seals are stranded and out numbered against hundreds of Taliban soldiers. HIDDEN FIGURES

****
Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
HIDDEN FIGURES is an engaging, encouraging, uplifting salute to three African-American women who contribute greatly to the 1960s NASA program during the Space Race with Communist Russia. Led by three fantastic actresses, HIDDEN FIGURES is an uplifting movie that exemplifies a positive way to stand with Christian strength and grace in the face of opposition, but caution is advised for older children due to many light obscenities and one strong profanity.

13 HOURS: THE SECRET SOLDIERS OF BENGHAZI

Quality:

Content:
-2 Extreme caution for older teenagers and adults.
13 HOURS: THE SECRET SOLDIERS OF BENGHAZI is a tense movie about the American soldiers fighting the Muslim terrorist attack on the U.S. embassy outpost and the CIA annex in Benghazi, Libya on Sept. 11, 2012, the anniversary of 9/11. Very well made with a straightforward plot, 13 HOURS is a conservative call to restore patriotism and values, but abundant foul language, intense bloody violence and mixed belief systems of the heroes demand an extreme caution.

SULLY is a very powerful, miraculous, heroic story about the airline pilot who safely landed 175 people in the Hudson River on Jan. 15, 2009. SULLY takes a small slice of life and turns it into a tremendous insight into the political, politically correct battles of our day. Caution is advised for older children because of some light foul language and intense air crash moments.
