How Candace Cameron Bure, Katy Nichole Surrender Struggles to God

By Movieguide® Contributor

In a recent podcast episode, Candace Cameron Bure spoke with Christian artist Katy Nichole about her song “Take It To The Cross.”

“Take it to the cross. Take it to the Savior. Lay it at the feet of the Mercy Giver. Take it to the one who can wash your sins away. There’s healing in his holy name,” Bure said, reciting the lyrics.

“So Katie,” she asked, “what does it actually mean for someone who doesn’t speak Christian-ese?”

“This is a song that is about surrender. It’s about taking all of the worries that you’re holding onto and giving them to God,” Nichole explained. “And by doing that, you’re going to sit in prayer with him. You’re going to talk to him. If you don’t talk to him, how could you ever let these things go?”

The singer added that she hopes the song will inspire people to go to God and sit with Him in the midst of their struggles.

“What does taking it to the cross, what does laying it at the feet of Jesus really, truly mean? Nichole asked. “It means going to him in the times of struggle, in the moments where you feel the weight of your life, of the world, everything.”

“You take it to him by sitting with him in it. And he’s got it. It’s in his hands. He’s got it in his hands,” she explained. “And I mean, the amount of times that I have had to just cry, just weep, because that was my surrender.”

Bure added, “That’s always the first step, is that confession. And then that leads us to repentance. Repentance is turning 180 degrees away from that. Not wanting to have to do with that sin or whatever it is that we’re struggling with. We’re turning our back on it and saying, ‘No, God. I’m not going to continue to deal with it on my own. I’m giving it to you.’”

Nichole continues to inspire fans with her thoughtful and God-focused music.

In a recent podcast interview with Candace Cameron Bure, Christian singer Katy Nichole shared the story behind her hit song “God Is In This Story.”

“I’ve talked already about the hard parts of life and kind of maybe some of the anger and the bitterness I held inside of me,” Nichole said. “And when it really comes down to this song, I was thinking you know, what’s important about God is that he’s always present, even when we can’t see him. Even when we can’t feel him. He’s always present.”

Nichole share a little about the writing process with co-writers Ethan Hulse and Jeff Pardo.

“And we just sat and we talked about God being in our stories. And I think it was one of the most beautiful writes that I had because…before we ever started writing anything, we were just talking about our lives and talking about the ways that God has shown up for us,” she said.
