Oregon QB Thanks Jesus for 4-0 Start to Season: ‘Another God Moment’

With the University of Oregon football’s dominant performance against Colorado University this past Saturday, the Ducks are now 4-0 to begin the 2023 season, and quarterback Bo Nix is thanking God for it.

When asked about his incredible start to the season, especially with the win over Colorado, Nix gave God the glory.

“That’s another God moment,” he said in a post-game press conference. “He just ordains our steps. He puts us in situations all the time to where life comes full circle.”

Following the win, he posted on Instagram, “Be still and know that I am God, Psalm 46:10. Jesus, thank you for these moments.”

Nix boldly declares his faith in his Instagram bio, stating, “Jesus Saves,” and listing Colossians 3:23, which reads, “Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.”

For Nix, Colossians 3:23 guides his life and football career.

“I think that’s really important, understanding and knowing why you’re doing what you’re doing,” he told Sports Spectrum in 2018. “You know that He gave you all the talent that you have, and doing anything else besides that would disrespect Him in the long run.”

“Whether it’s leading [teammates] on the field or off the field, just setting that example, being that role model that they would look up to,” Nix added. “Trying to do the right thing all the time when I’m around them and help them to know that it’s not weird or different to be different and do what’s right and be a Christ-follower.”

“A former five-star recruit and Alabama’s 2018 Mr. Football Award-winner, Nix’s three years at Auburn came with mixed results. He led the Tigers to a 9-4 record as a true freshman and was named 2019 SEC Rookie of the Year, but only managed to win six games each of the following two seasons and struggled with injuries,” Sports Spectrum wrote.

After his three seasons at Auburn, Nix chose to transfer to Oregon and continue to pursue God’s calling.

In the win against Colorado, Nix “completed 28 of his 33 passing attempts for 276 yards and three touchdowns with one interception against the Buffaloes, and also added a score on the ground,” Sports Spectrum reported.

Just four games into the season, Nix has completed a career best of 79.4% of his passes. He has thrown for a total of 1,169 yards and 11 touchdowns so far.

Movieguide® previously reported on Nix:

The success this season comes after Nix transferred to Oregon for his senior year after spending three years at Auburn.

“I don’t know what the next chapter of my life looks like,” Nix said at the time of his transfer, “but I do know that whatever it is, God has ordered my steps and He has a plan for me like He does for everyone else.”

Nix is outspoken about his Christian faith over social media and in post-game interviews.
