Roma Downey Shares Scripture That Brings Her Peace

By Movieguide® Contributor

In a recent Instagram post, Roma Downey shared scripture that brings her peace.

“A psalm of David,” she captioned a video of a beautiful walk through the forest, adding Psalm 23:

“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

Downey continued, “This is one of [my] favorite Psalms and one of my favorite soundtracks [Leona Lewis’ “Now We Are Free”] both on my morning walk in the woods. Wishing you peace wherever you are this Monday morning.”

Downey recently celebrated the publication of her latest book, “A Message in the Moon.”

The children’s book was inspired by the actress’ own struggles with anxiety and fear.

“I wanted to write a story that is deeply reassuring,” Downey told Publishers Weekly. “When I went to college there were no cell phones—I didn’t know how I would communicate. I was feeling quite anxious. My father took me to the garden, pointed to the moon, and said: ‘wherever you are, there is the same moon, shining on you and on me. Leave a message for me on the moon.’ It helped me feel close and connected.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Downey’s wish to create uplifting content:

Actress and producer Roma Downey released her new book, “Unexpected Blessings: 90 inspirations to nourish your soul, and open your heart,” and shared her thoughts on holding to faith in Hollywood.

“I felt a call in my life for many years, and I just continue to try to create and generate content that is hopeful, that is uplifting, that’s inspiring in some way,” Downey told The Christian Post.

Downey also talked about how she has promoted her Christian faith through her work in the entertainment industry, noting that Christian have carved out a space in Hollywood where they can create and promote faith-based content.

“I think when we first started, there was and there is still opposition,” Downey said. “Not everybody’s going to love what you do, and not everybody’s going to respond to that positively. But have courage and keep moving forward with strength.”

“In my experience, we’re a big community of people,” she continued, referring to the Christian community. “The content may not be for everybody. We’re not trying to force it down anybody’s throat; we’re just creating it lovingly inviting people to participate.”
