SAG-AFTRA, AMPTP Continue ‘Productive’ Negotiations

By Movieguide® Contributor

SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP have yet to come to an agreement despite continued negotiations.

“Over the course of the weekend, we have discussed all open proposals, including AI, with the AMPTP,” a statement from SAG reads. “Both parties will be working independently Monday and re-engage on scheduling at the end of the day. Join us and flood picket lines in the morning. Make your voices heard.”

Variety reported that SAG made their latest proposal to the studios this weekend and that the two groups were having “productive” conversations.

These talks come after a lengthy stalemate between SAG and the AMPTP, with Deadline writing, “Both sides’ continued willingness to meet is a better sign than no talks at all.”

The studios have conceded to some of SAG’s demands, namely, a raise in minimum rates plus bonuses based on the success of streaming content.

Many think the strike will end sooner rather than later, as both sides are feeling the pressure to come to a deal.

“Several A-list actors were recently pressuring the SAG-AFTRA to resolve the strike, while studios are scrambling to deal with recent box office losses and film and TV show delays,” Screen Rant explained. “While pressure is high for the SAG-AFTRA strike to end, it’s not rushing things, and even with an end in sight, it’s remaining cautious and fighting to ensure a final fair deal.”

Movieguide® previously reported on the progress of the strike:

SAG-AFTRA is ready to continue negotiations with Hollywood’s studios amid the ongoing actors’ strike.

“SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP will meet for bargaining on Tuesday, Oct. 24, at SAG-AFTRA Plaza,” the union posted on Twitter. “Several executives from AMPTP member companies will be in attendance.”

Discussions previously came to an end on October 11, with the AMPTP claiming the divide between the two groups was “too great,” while SAG accused them of using “bully tactics.”

Many are hopeful that SAG and the AMPTP will be more willing to reach a deal this go-round. SAG is still pushing for increased protections when it comes to AI, as well as an increase in minimum wage for actors.
