‘Once In A Career’: AFTER DEATH Crew Discuss ‘Ordained’ Project

By Movieguide® Contributor

The crew of AFTER DEATH recently shared their thoughts on the impact their documentary is having on them and the movie’s audience.

“I think it was ordained,” Don Piper said of the documentary’s production in an interview with Movieguide®. “I think it was anointed, and I couldn’t be more humbled and be more proud to be involved in a project like this.”

Jason Pamer, who served as a producer on AFTER DEATH, was equally effusive, explaining that he always wants to “tell distinct stories for distinct audiences.”

“Once in a career, you get the opportunity to touch a project that’s for everybody,” he continued. “This just happens to be one of those where grief and loss affect all of us as humans.”

Pamer added, “I think a film like this can provide confidence that there’s an afterlife, but then it can also sort of challenge us: how do we live here? All the seemingly mundane and small moments of life really do matter and our lives ripple into eternity.”

Piper touched on the impact that AFTER DEATH is having on its audience, saying, “They’re never the same after this…I really can’t remember anyone that I talked to who, if they weren’t a believer, didn’t become one. That’s the benchmark.”

Writer and director Stephen Gray said making the movie “offered a lot of hope and…helped with the grieving process” as he mourned the loss of his brother-in-law.

“It’s a question that affects everyone: what happens after we die?” he continued. “When you come face to face with death, it kind of challenges you to ask those questions out loud.”

Gray elaborated on the questions AFTER DEATH raises in an interview with the Washington Examiner.

“I’ve found that there are a lot of people in this world who are hurting and searching for answers. I have a deep personal connection to the stories we’ve included in our film, which is why I’ve dedicated the past six-plus years of my life creating this in hopes that it becomes a beacon of hope for others,” he said

Producer Jens Jacob told Fox News that AFTER DEATH is helping audiences process their own grief and be less afraid of dying.

“It is very cathartic and therapeutic to be able to process death in this way, to be able to maybe see some of your questions on the screen and get some of them answered, or at least to ask the right questions,” he explained. “I found that that was something that’s been beautiful [to watch] as we’ve screened this now with hundreds of people, we hear that a lot.”

A portion of the Movieguide® review reads:

AFTER DEATH is a fascinating, inspiring look into the nature of thousands of near death experiences. It explores the scientific evidence, the encounters people have had, and how the experiences affected them and their lives afterwards. AFTER DEATH has wonderful special effects that help make it a cinematic experience. Best of all, however, it has a strong Christian worldview promoting hope, love, purpose, meaning, and life. It encourages viewers to stop and consider Eternity. It also tells viewers, “What we say and do really matters.”
