Kieran Culkin Excited to Take a Break and ‘Just Be a Dad’

Actor Kieran Culkin is excited to take a break from his busy schedule to spend some time at home and enjoy being a dad.

“I’m really looking forward to [the break] when I get home because the last couple weeks I haven’t really been much of a parent, which makes me feel like [crap], and it makes me feel like I’m not me,” Culkin told The Hollywood Reporter now that his newest project is coming to a close.

“I’m going to turn the world off for about a week and just be a dad,” he continued. “‘Did you read the email?’ No, I did not. [I’m doing] nothing at all, except just diapers and bath time and stuff for like a week.”

Culkin shares his daughter Kinsey Sioux, 4, and son Wilder Wolf, 2, with his wife Jazz.

Though he’s been busy recently due to the success of his show SUCCESSION, along with numerous roles in movies, Culkin has also had time to be with his family thanks to unexpected breaks such as the pandemic and the actors’ strike.

“It had been really… probably shouldn’t say, I don’t care… lovely for me,” he said about the actors’ strike. “I’d been hiding behind it. I’m like, ‘No work?’ Fantastic.”

“I get these, thankfully, these large periods of time where I get to just do that, and there’s where I feel like I’m most me,” Culkin added.

Though it’s taken him away from time with his family, the actor’s hard work has not gone unrewarded. His role on SUCCESSION has earned him an Emmy, a Golden Globe and a Critics Choice award, along with other recognitions during the most recent award season.

Nonetheless, the actor is ready to focus on his family and maybe even add another member to it. During his Emmy acceptance speech, he joked about having a third child with his wife, saying, “You said maybe if I win.” He also thanked her “for sharing your life with me and for giving me two amazing kids.”

For now, however, Culkin is simply content to have “a few more months” at home.
