Dude Dad Taylor Calmus ‘Finishes’ Dream Truck: ‘A Memory Machine’

Dude Dad Taylor Calmus just finished fixing up his vintage truck and opened up about all the memories he wants to make with his kids in it.
“Six months ago my wife surprised me with my dream truck. A 1978 square body pick-up,” he said in the video, showing off the old Chevy.

“My wife surprised me,” Calmus titled his video, adding that the truck was “the same one my dad had when I was a kid.”
“Taylor has been wanting an old, square-box pick-up for, like, ever,” his wife Heidi said in the video. “He found one, but unfortunately, it sold. What he doesn’t know is that it sold…to me…”
“Hopefully, when he walks out, he’ll recognize it,” Heidi joked.
Calmus immediately notices the car, telling his wife, “This looks exactly like the one I was showing you!”
When Heidi holds up the keys, Calmus is overjoyed and immediately gets into his new ride.
“Now after half a year of love and labor, the K10 is finally finished. Well, kind of,” Calmus said.
Like most things in life, when it comes to restoring old cars, it’s not about the finished product.
“Honestly, it’ll never be finished, but that’s kind of the point. Driving an old truck isn’t about the destination. It’s about the journey,” Calmus revealed. “One of the main reasons I wanted this old truck was to recreate the memories I had with my own dad, sitting side by side in his old single-cab truck.”
“It doesn’t ride smooth or quiet or fast and the kids can’t even shut the door all the way,” he explained. “But those are the same things that make this experience stand out. It isn’t a showroom truck, it’s a memory machine. The silly little conversations I’ve shared with my kids on our short drives through the neighborhood to school are some that I enjoy and I hope they will remember. There’s just something about being sandwiched next to each other on a bench seat that just helps you form connection.”
“So, is the truck finished? Nope. It’s just getting started,” he concluded.
Some of Calmus’ followers shared their memories in old trucks.
“My dad was a pick up man and I have so many great memories with him. Throw a camper on the back and now those are epic memories,” one follower wrote.
“I have a 78 square body crew cab dually there’s nothing like throwing the family in it and getting ice cream or going camping,” another person wrote.
For Calmus, being a dad is his number one priority.
“As a dad, I’m always thinking up the next grand idea,” he wrote in an essay for Insider. “I’ll admit, sometimes I get too caught up in a project, making it bigger and better. I think it’s common among parents: We spend so much time doing things that we forget what our kids really want and need is just our attention. We have to remember that it’s not about always going above and beyond. It’s about just showing up. When we’re so exhausted from keeping them alive, just being there with them is enough.”
“I think that our duty as fathers is to create the adventures for our kids,” the SUPER DAD star told Movieguide®. “Kids go through this crazy process of developing mentally and emotionally and physically, and they really learn the most from just play. That’s literally their job as kids, it’s just to play, and us as dads. We have very playful souls, so I really feel like it’s kind of our place and our duty to create the adventure for our kids.”

“Proud moment. Our reality television show #SuperDad won an award! I know some of you are confused so I’ll back up…,” Calmus began.
“About 4 years ago, a couple friends and I dreamed up this reality show where I would help other dads built insane backyard projects for their kids,” he continued to write. “After partnering with @rivrmedia and befriending @ChipGaines, it became a reality. We shot 2 seasons and 16 episodes and I can’t tell you how proud of them I am. Each one of them is heartwarming and inspiring in its own way.”
“Not only that but I got to work along side some of my favorite humans ever,” he concluded. “I don’t know if we will ever make another episode of it, but I’m so glad we made the 16 that we did! It’s a great show (award winning) for the entire family, and I hope you’ll go find it tonight on Discovery+!”
