Ex-Porn Star Says Peace is Only ‘Found in Jesus’

Joshua Broome was an adult film star until Jesus turned his life around.

In an interview on “Livin’ the Bream” with Fox News’ Shannon Bream, Broome shared his journey to freedom and his love for God.

Broome grew up without a father and believes that is where some of his issues began.

“What was unique about me growing up was that my father was in close enough proximity to be someone that I saw, and I saw him living his life,” he said. “And the inadequacy that I felt from not having him in my life…it really was an additional amplifier of the pain and the confusion that I was dealing with.”

He shared that his fatherlessness made him feel invaluable. He believed, “If I had something, I would feel something different.”

Eventually, he ended up in the porn industry.

Movieguide® previously reported on Broome’s story:

“When I was 22, I thought it was a good idea to move to Hollywood,” he said, explaining that he was hoping to become an actor. “It was hard. The grind wasn’t something that I was really prepared for…”

Broome got a job at a restaurant, where a group of girls approached him and asked if he considered entering the porn industry. He agreed to meet their agent but “knew that this was not a place that I should be…”

The agent called and asked if he wanted to do another movie.

“I didn’t know what else to do, so I said yes,” Broome said. “And that one film turned into six years and over a thousand films.”

He shared that while he had the money and success he dreamed of, he still felt “empty and broken and disappointed.”

During his time in the industry, he fell into depression and even considered taking his own life.

“I wrote down on a piece of paper that I didn’t want to live anymore because I thought I disqualified myself from being…[in] the world in a way that led to positive change…yet God met me where I was, and he took me to where I couldn’t go on my own,” he said.

He eventually escaped the porn business, and when he met his future wife, he divulged everything about his past.

His wife, Hope, told him, “You’re not defined by the worst thing you’ve ever done, and you’re not defined by the greatest thing you’ll ever do. There is a creator that exists outside of you, me, and everything else, and He created everything, and He determines who you are. Do you know Him?”

Broome eventually learned that “things” would not bring him peace. Only Jesus can.

“We all have this wounded heart that only Jesus could fix, but it’s easy to believe the lie that I can have enough stuff to fix myself,” he said.

“Peace is not attainable on its own, it’s found in Jesus,” he added.

Broome went to church with Hope, began growing in his faith and attended Bible college.

“Everything that I thought was not possible, I have,” he said. “It points to a God who’s ready to do exceedingly, abundantly, more than we could ever hope or imagine.”

Today, Joshua Broome shares four sons with his wife and is a pastor.

Recently, he released a book titled “7 Lies That Will Ruin Your Life.” In an Instagram post, Broome shared, “7 Lies That Will Ruin Your Life pairs my personal experiences with Biblical truths, demonstrating both how we can be deceived and the healing truth that comes when we realize that Jesus really is enough.”
