Sadie Robertson Huff, Steven Furtick Talk Reframing Failure: ‘Grace for Those Moments’

In a recent “WHOA That’s Good” podcast episode, Sadie Robertson Huff spoke with pastor and author Steven Furtick about reframing failure and living God’s truth.

Furtick began by sharing a pivotal lesson in his life that his wife taught him.

After feeling like he had failed, his wife Holly said something that shifted his perspective.

“She said that ‘maybe you didn’t fail, maybe you just didn’t finish.’ I think about that constantly. That was a few years ago. When I feel like, ‘Oh, that didn’t turn out how I wanted,’ in a conversation or, you know, like I’ll have this bad parenting moment, and I’ll feel like, ‘Well, I blew that,” Furtick shared. “And it’s a way of seeing…that there’s grace for those moments, too, and that I’m going to get another chance at this.”

Furtick also spoke about something Huff previously spoke on—the idea that people often say the phrase “live your truth.”

“You actually said in a sermon, you were talking about ‘living your truth,’…that phrase was really really hot a few years ago, and it still is,” he said.

“And I don’t have a problem with the phrase. Like I’m sure that you also think that if what we mean by ‘live your truth’ is the embodied truths of Jesus Christ that have been spoken in scriptures and impressed upon you by the Holy Spirit and confirmed, then yeah, live your truth,” he said. “Great, that’s what we want.”

“But the idea that I heard you talking about was ‘your truth doesn’t set you free.’ THE truth sets you free…it’s such an important message,” he added.

That message is something Furtick addresses in his new book “Do the New You.”

“Imagine yourself free. God knows that you. Imagine yourself whole. God knows that you. The truth of YOU is still unfolding to you, but it is fully known by God. He knows that version of you because he made that version of you. This book is about living out your God-given identity and becoming who you were created to be all along,” a description of the book reads.

In a recent Instagram post, Furtick shared more about the book.

“I can’t believe it’s finally here – My latest book, Do the New You: 6 Mindsets To Become Who You Were Created To Be, is available NOW!” he captioned the post. “I wrote this book and these six mindsets so that you can get them in your head, in your heart, and in your life so you can become the version of you that God has known all along – and I’m excited to be able to coach you through it. These six mindsets have not only been a great help to me, but I pray that you can also use them as tools to bring you into the version of yourself that God has created you to be.”

Movieguide® previously reported on an interview Huff did with another author:

Sadie Robertson Huff and author April Rogers recently discussed why we need to give our worries to God on an episode of Huff’s “WHOA That’s Good” podcast.

“Worry robs us of trusting the Lord to meet our needs. We falsely believe that if we worry, we can invoke some kind of control over our situation. But in reality, God is the one who is in control and has the power to change out situation,” Huff read from Roger’s new book “Resting In Jesus.”

Resting in Jesus,” a 30-day devotional, teaches readers the “art of letting go of daily chaos to find perfect peace in Christ.”
