Michael Weatherly, Cote de Pablo Share Final Objective for NCIS Spin-Off
By Movieguide® Contributor
Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo are opening up about their upcoming spin-off NCIS: TONY & ZIVA.
“We’ve worked from the get-go for many years as a partnership, which means at times we have to confide in each other and sort of ask permission to do things in order to allow the other one to sit down or for things not to get in the way of the final objective, which is really to make this show and to give the audience the element of surprise on that show,” de Pablo said of the pair’s role reprisals over the years.
As they look ahead to NCIS: TONY & ZIVA, the actors said they’ve been asking each other, “How do you think it’s going to be?”
“We know that we have a past. We know that we have worked together. We know that we are friends, we know that we have gone through really good times, really challenging times in the show, as friends, in life, and now we’re going to be working together and hopefully we’re going to be drawing from all of that,” de Pablo explained. “And we have to understand these characters, much like Michael and Cote, have evolved.”
Weatherly added, “I think the dynamic that emerges is going to be a really brand new one. And I have no idea what that’s going to feel like. I can’t wait…I’m looking forward to that, the real energy and exhilaration of acting with one of the best actors I’ve ever worked with, Cote de Pablo.”
The actors spoke further about the show and their working relationship while attending the Monte-Carlo Television Festival.
“You know what I’ve always said about working with Michael is it’s always refreshingly unpredictable,” de Pablo said. “I think he also likes my … you know, the fact that I love to play. I think we relate on that level. We are both, at our core, kids. We love playing. I respect the boundaries and the structure of that. He has a tougher time with the structure and the boundaries. But at the end of the day, we both like to play.”
NCIS: TONY & ZIVA is set to premiere on Paramount+. TVLine reported that production “will begin in summer 2024 — in Budapest and possibly other locations in Europe.”
“And though no episode count or release pattern has been announced yet, that timetable would point to a laaaaaate 2024 premiere at soonest, but possibly not until 2025,” they concluded.
Movieguide® previously reported on the spin-off:
The new NCIS spinoff NCIS: TONY & ZIVA has fans all abuzz.
“We’ve been talking about this story for many years, and now with John McNamara at the helm, we are ready,” said Michael Weatherly (Tony) and Cote de Pablo (Ziva). “The world of Tony and Ziva (and daughter Tali) promises to be an action-packed roller coaster fueled by love, danger, tears and laughter.”
“We also want to acknowledge and thank the fans from around the world who supported the ‘TIVA’ movement for years. To this day, they say hello in grocery stores and on the street to tell us how much these characters mean to them and ask what Tony and Ziva are up to now. This is for you!”
“The new series picks up after Tony and Ziva were reunited in Paris (off-screen) following the revelation she was alive and her completing one final mission with NCIS,” TV Insider reported. “’Since then, Tony and Ziva have been raising their daughter, Tali, together,’ according to the official description. ‘When Tony’s security company is attacked, they must go on the run across Europe, try to figure out who is after them and maybe even learn to trust each other again so that they can finally have their unconventional happily ever after.’”
