‘Please Pray’: Woman Who Saved Pro Golfer’s Son From Drowning in Coma

Golfer Brian Harman is sharing his prayer for the woman who tried to save his son from drowning and is now in a coma.

Talking to reporters before a recent tournament, Harman said family friend Cathy Dowdy “went in the water after my son. She’s been in a coma for going on six weeks now and so obviously our world down here was kind of turned on its head.”

The St. Johns Citizen reported that Dowdy was pulled from the water by a lifeguard who “administered life-saving measures before emergency crews responded to the scene,” adding, “Dowdy was taken to the Mayo Clinic where she remains.”

Another bystander, Crane Cantrell, went into the water to help Harman’s son, who is uninjured.

“They disregarded their selves, went into the water, saved my son and how do you thank people like that?” Harman said. “I don’t know other than to just say what you think. I think that bravery and doing something like that for people who aren’t your blood is just the most beautiful thing you can do in this life.”

The golfer said the Dowdy family is in his prayers.

Dowdy’s family is keeping people updated through a GoFundMe page, asking viewers “to continue to PRAY for a full recovery.”

A recent post reads, “She is still unconscious and still having some neuro storms. This causes a roller coaster ride with blood pressure and breathing rate. Lately there hasn’t been as many but today was a MONDAY. We need her on an even keel to try and wean her from the vent. Please pray for calmer days ahead.”

The GoFundMe has already raised over $88,000.

Dowdy’s daughter Christina posted a message on Facebook, writing, “Please pray for my mama. She is a fighter, but we are going to need all the prayers we can get. Much love to everyone who has already been praying. We can’t wait for the day when she can thank you all herself.”
