SELLING THE CITY Star’s Dog Saves Her from Apartment Fire
By Movieguide® Contributor
Dogs are man’s best friend, and SELLING THE CITY star Taylor Middleton knows exactly why after her pup saved her and her husband from a fire in their apartment building a few weeks ago.
“I had actually gone to bed quite early that night and then my husband came to bed maybe an hour after me,” she told Fox Business. “We were fast asleep and our golden retriever, Mac, all of a sudden started barking ferociously. He’s not a barker. And so, he woke us up. Clearly there was a problem.”
The couple got out of bed and noticed smoke in their apartment.
“We turned on the lights and there was just a cloud of smoke in our apartment. And at that point, the smoke alarms had not gone off yet. We knew that there was a pretty big problem. Clearly…There’s smoke completely taking over our office, in our kitchen,” she said.

Thankfully the New York Fire Department arrived quickly to help.
“They were very, very, very fast, thank God, and they seemed to be on it,” Middleton shared. “So, I just grabbed anything I could. I knew I only had a few minutes. And so, I grabbed, you know, a laptop, chargers, passport, things like that, and then just got out of there. But it was freezing outside. It was absolutely freezing. And so that made it especially tricky, I think, for the firefighters and then for all of my neighbors.”
She revealed that she, her husband and many of their neighbors lost their homes and many of their belongings due to smoke and fire damage.
However, she’s grateful for Mac who helped save them.
“Our dog @goldenmacnyc is a hero,” she wrote along with photos of the building and Mac. “His barking woke us up and alerted us to a fire in the building. We are in total shock. We don’t have the words yet or the space to process what happened but we are safe and grateful our neighbors, their kids and pets are also safe. We are overwhelmed beyond belief but we are eternally grateful to our Tribeca community. And Thank you to all the friends and everyone who has reached out and offered various types of support. Thank you 🙏🏻”
