Sadie Robertson Huff explained a tricky theological concept to her 3-year-old daughter Honey, and it’s an encouragement we all can take comfort in.
“This morning, Honey woke up early and curled up next to me while I was reading. I started reading out loud and came across Psalms 36:7 that says, ‘children will be under the shadow of the Almighty’s wing,’” she wrote on Instagram.
Huff continued, “She looked at me wide-eyed and asked, ‘Like Sonic the hedgehog’s shadow?’ Ha! I reminded her what a shadow looks like outside when you stand in the sun. I explained to her that God is in front of her and asked her to imagine how big His shadow is — bigger than any ‘monster’ (bc that’s what we are scared of right now) that could ever get in front of her, and she will always be hidden behind God.”
She told her daughter that God protects her from “monsters.”
“Y’all. Her little smile when she got it… 😭 The way kids grasp faith is pure and powerful. Jesus said to enter the Kingdom like a child (Matthew 18:3), and moments like this show me why,” Huff reflected.
Matthew 18:3 says, “And [Jesus] said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”
The DUCK DYNASTY star concluded, “When I slow down and explain truth to my girls, it ends up speaking truth back to me. I hope this encourages you today.”

Huff often shares sweet family moments with her children. She recently posted a photo of her with Honey and her younger daughter Haven, almost 2, at the beach.

“Thank God He has the whole world in His hands, because holding up your whole world is quite the weight to carry,” Huff wrote in the caption.
She and her husband Christian are expecting baby No. 3, which they announced earlier this year.
Following Honey’s birth in 2021, Huff spoke about how confident and beautiful she felt through the experience.
“I don’t know if ‘pretty’ is the word, but I’ve never felt more confident in my life with my body then the day that I had Honey,” she wrote at the time.
“It was a total different perspective then I have ever had of my body…that is truly powerful and more than just an image,” she added. “I didn’t want wear makeup and I wanted my grandma to braid my hair because that’s when I feel the most myself and [was] it just such a raw moment.”
As the Huffs prepare to welcome their third, they’re certain to keep God, His word and His Truth first in their family’s life.
