Are you ready for ZOOTOPIA 2? Here’s everything we know about the highly-anticipated sequel.
“We are beyond excited to welcome everyone back to the outrageous, expansive animal metropolis of Zootopia, and take audiences on a hilarious, wild ride into parts of the city we’ve never visited before,” director and writer Jared Bush said in a statement.
He continued, “Whether it’s the marshes of semi-aquatic mammals, the vast desert dunes or even greater mysteries beyond, our heroes Judy and Nick will meet a lot of new friends, and discover even more about the world, themselves and a brand-new snake in town.”
An official synopsis of ZOOTOPIA 2 from Disney shared, “Detectives Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (voiced by Jason Bateman) find themselves on the twisting trail of a mysterious reptile who arrives in Zootopia and turns the mammal metropolis upside down. To crack the case, Judy and Nick must go undercover to unexpected new parts of town, where their growing partnership is tested like never before.”
Goodwin and Bateman, who are reprising their roles from the original movie, are joined by Ke Huy Quan, Fortune Feimster and Quinta Brunson. Singer Shakira will also reprise her role as Gazelle in the movie.
“She’s got a new look, a new song and of course, new dance moves,” Shakira said of her character. “Just wait until you see what she and her tiger dancers have been working on. I know you’re going to love it.”
It’s no surprise Disney wanted a follow-up to 2016’s ZOOTOPIA. The movie made over a billion dollars at the global box office, per BoxOfficeMojo.

Bush also wrote the script for ZOOTOPIA. In addition to his work on movies like ZOOTOPIA 2, ENCANTO and MOANA 2, Bush is now Disney Animation’s chief creative officer.
“Disney Animation is a place where the goal is not to make a good film or a great film,” he said in an interview with the Financial Times. “The goal is to make a timeless film — that’s the bar.”
Bush also discussed some people’s dissatisfaction about sequels to popular movies like MOANA and FROZEN.
“I think [sequels are] easy to be cynical about,” he explained. “But I can tell you, being at ground level of a movie like MOANA 2 or FROZEN II, these are stories where storytellers and artists are thrilled to go back into these worlds.”
ZOOTOPIA 2 hits theaters Nov. 26.
