“007 First Light,” a new James Bond video game, will let gamers play as a 26-year-old James Bond as he begins his adventures at MI6 and begins to come into his own through the help of Q, John Greenway and other classic characters.
“This is Bond as you’ve never seen him before — the youngest Bond fans have ever met. In ‘007 First Light,’ at only 26 years old, he isn’t the fully fledged 007 you know from the tux-and-martini days but a man with sharp instincts, sometimes reckless, who is still learning when to fight, when to bluff, and when to disappear into the shadows,” said IO Interactive, the studio behind the game.
“In 007 First Light, Bond starts as a NAVY aircrewman, when against all odds, an audacious act of bravery propels him on MI6’s most challenging training program. This training coupled with his natural instinct, wits, and heart will see him grow into a fully-fledged spy,” IO Interactive continued. “It’s a completely original standalone story, developed in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios.”
The game was first announced in the fall of 2020 but until recently had been completely kept under wraps. Fans were not even sure that the game would star James Bond.
Hakan Abrak, the CEO of IO Interactive, previously shared that this game is built from the ground up, offering a completely new story, rather than being based on previous movies. The game, which offers some amount of an origin story, will provide fans with a completely new look at Bond.
“What’s exciting about that project is that we actually got to do an original story. So it’s not a gamification of a movie. It’s completely beginning and becoming a story, hopefully for a big trilogy out there in the future,” Abrak previously said. “And equally important and exciting, it’s a new Bond.”
“It’s a Bond we built from the ground up for gamers,” he continued. “It’s extremely exciting with all the tradition and all the history there is there together to work on this together with the family of creating a young Bond for gamers; a Bond that the gamers can call their own and grow with.”

The video game comes at a pivotal moment in the Bond movie franchise as the architects of the story search for a new actor to take on the agent. At the same time, leadership of the franchise recently changed hands after being acquired by Amazon MGM.
“We don’t have a plan yet on what the next theme is going to be,” said Amazon CEO Andy Jassy. “We haven’t — nobody’s written the story yet. But we will take great care. It’s an amazing franchise that we care a lot about and that we expect to develop over a long period of time.”
Should the James Bond franchise continue?
Perhaps “007 First Light” will offer some insight into the future of the franchise while also holding fans over until the next movie releases. “007 First Light” is set to release in 2026.
