The Savannah Bananas scored home runs online with their viral rendition of Forrest Frank’s “Your Way Is Better” dance, but for pitcher Andy Archer, faith is more than a trend.
“Jesus is the first and the last. He is the Son of God. He is God. He is the only reason why I have a chance to experience eternity with my creator in heaven,” he told ChurchLeaders in an interview.
“The whole Bible points to him, starting in Genesis 3, when God — He’s talking to the serpent and He says, ‘I will put enmity between you and the woman’s offspring. He will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.’ That’s talking about Jesus.”
Archer continued, “So you see it all the way from the first book of the Bible all the way to Revelation.”

From his childhood, faith has been a priority, sharing how his upbringing deeply impacted his belief in God.
“I came to faith at a young age. My dad, he’s actually an ordained minister. He’s a Bible teacher,” he explained. “At the high school I went to, he teaches a class called ‘eschatology,’ which is study of the end times.”
Archer didn’t just hear about the Bible at school, but he heard it at home also.
“I’m grateful that I’ve had theology in the house growing up,” he said. “And so, I really get super passionate about the mysteries of the Bible and peeling it apart very slowly, because I really just want to know what’s in there, know what’s not in there.”
Speaking of his father, Archer recently had the chance to practice with his dad during a game at the Busch Stadium, a special moment shared on Instagram.
“Love these moments for you guys!” one fan said. Another person added, “What an awesome moment for you both.”
Archer isn’t the only player on the field who celebrates faith and family. Outfielder Robert Anthony Cruz has also been outspoken about his belief in God.
Previously in an Instagram video, he shared, “There’s nothing that crazy happening here — we are just broken people who find great joy and peace and rest knowing that our lives are not about us.”
He added, “The world doesn’t revolve around us. Speaking for myself, the more the spotlight is put on me, the more I realize the spotlight is meant to be put on the Giver of all things.”
It’s refreshing to see those in the public eye spreading positivity and faith to fans around the world.
