HGTV’s Jenny Marrs reflected on grief and God’s love in a recently-released passage from her new book, Trust God, Love People: Stories of My Openhanded Faith.

“I haven’t slept well the last two weeks,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “Grief seeps in at night most acutely, once I slow down from the day’s activity. Each day is a disorienting experience- life continues to move forward as I am simply trying to reconcile my deep heartache with the sunshine out the window and the pressing demands on my time.”

The HGTV star and her husband, Dave, revealed a few weeks ago that his mom, Donna, had passed away after a fight with dementia.

Marrs continued, “This morning, I was sorting through emails for next week’s book launch and happened across a handful of audio files from the audio book I recorded. I opened this one from the ‘Lessons from the Farm’ chapter and I felt my own words speak life to my heart. Maybe someone else needed them today too.”

In the audio clip she shared, Marrs says, “Farm life can be both beautiful and brutal. That day was certainly one of the hardest days. While we’ve witnessed hundreds of joy-filled miracles here on this little patch of land, we’ve also experienced deep grief. On that cold and dreary morning, I knew it was okay to sit in the grief while wholly anticipating the joy.”

One of Marr’s friends reminded her, “Being His means holding all of it. The miracles and the pain.”

“Despite the hard, God is always only good,” the FIXER TO FABULOUS star concluded.

In another post, Marrs continued to share the comfort she’s been finding in the faith-filled lessons contained in Trust God, Love People.

“About two months ago, I prayed over which verse to include as I signed preordered copies of my book,” she wrote. “I was honest with God asking, ‘What can I offer this hurting world? My words, my story, feel ‘not enough’ now. The world is aching more than ever…’”

Marrs continued, “He led me to Psalm 39:7. And, as I sign copies to be shipped out for next week’s launch and write this verse over and over again, my weary heart is receiving His word in a fresh way. He knew the verse wouldn’t be for the masses, it would be for me. ‘And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you.’ – Psalm 39:7.”

The HGTV star has been celebrating her book’s message, writing on Instagram, “I believe the world needs this message more than ever. My prayer is that these stories will encourage every reader to look at God’s faithfulness in their own life in order to trust Him more fully, and, most importantly, that they will be inspired to pour out extravagant love on the people in their life. No prerequisites, just kindness born out of love.”

Trust God, Love People: Stories of My Openhanded Faith hits bookstores Oct. 7.
