SEAL TEAM actor AJ Buckley shared a raw Instagram post about his journey to “rediscovering” his faith in Christ.
“Rediscovering my faith as a Christian has been a journey back, to say the least,” Buckley began the post. “For so long, I was angry that my dad had died, and this time of year is always extra hard as it gets closer to December 1st when I lost him 12yrs ago. So rather than being self-destructive or ignoring the pain, I decided to challenge myself and put myself in a situation I’ve never been in before.”

Buckley went on a retreat with men from his church in North Carolina.
“What an amazing experience this past weekend. For the first time in my life, I went on a journey to get closer to God,” he declared. “Hiking through the mountains of North Carolina with incredible men from my church @seacoastmtp, no phones, no technology, just nature, prayer, and real conversation. Somewhere between the climb and the silence, I started to see things more clearly.”
“You don’t realize how heavy your baggage is until you’re climbing uphill with it, but it feels good to know I’m not alone, that nobody’s perfect and so many of us are fighting the same battles,” he continued. “It’s wild how your faith and God show up right when you least expect it, but when you needed it more than you even knew. I’m a work in progress, no doubt about it, but I’m leaning into that work, one step at a time. I won’t quit until I reach the top. Whatever mountain you’re climbing, keep going. You’re not alone.”
Buckley starred in the hit CBS show SEAL TEAM through all seven seasons, as Sonny Quinn, “an exceptional, loyal soldier with a checkered past who still combats self-destructive tendencies.”

Like the character he portrayed in SEAL TEAM, Buckley was on a path to self-destructive tendencies. Now, after a retreat with men from his church, Buckley’s faith has been reignited. Buckley is on a mission to heal from his past and draw closer to Christ.
