Faith-based movie SARAH’S OIL proves yet again the popularity of Christian content as it landed the No. 4 spot at last week’s box office.
“Reading the script, I was blown away, not just by her fate, but also this is an incredible true story that I’ve never heard of,” star Zachary Levi told Movieguide®. “This needs to be told. The audiences need to see movies that are inspiring like this. You even learn about someone else’s incredible faith like Sarah’s. It should only bolster your faith. It should only remind you that God is good.”

Levi’s intuition that audiences would react strongly with the story was right as the movie scored the No. 4 spot at the box office last weekend, despite airing in fewer theaters than most of its competitors. It serves as a major win for Wonder Project, the studio behind the movie, as it is the company’s first project to hit theaters.
SARAH’S OIL marks yet another successful Christian project to reach audiences in recent years. Since the success of THE CHOSEN in 2020, faith-based media has proven itself to have a major pull with moviegoers across America. It is clear that families want uplifting content rooted in strong morals more than anything else Hollywood can deliver. A portion of Movieguide®’s review of SARAH’S OIL reads:
SARAH’S OIL is extremely well directed by Cyrus Nowrasteh. Zachary Levi gives his best performance yet in a movie. Everyone else in the cast is also great, including Naya Desin-Johnson as Sarah. SARAH’S OIL is extremely well written, with intense jeopardy that’s relieved by wonderful humor and spiritual drama. The ending is terrific. SARAH’S OIL has an inspiring, uplifting Christian, moral worldview. MOVIEGUIDE® applauds SARAH’S OIL. However, there’s a smattering of foul language and some scary violence, so MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for younger children.
Wonder Project has multiple other projects in the pipeline that will continue to deliver high-quality Christian content to theaters across America. These projects include REDEMPTION, NO TURNING BACK, A WINTER’S SONG and YOUNG WASHINGTON.
Wonder Project launched last year as a partnership between Amazon MGM and Jon Erwin to create original, faith-based content. Along with the movies in the works, Wonder Project delivered the hit show HOUSE OF DAVID and recently launched its own streaming service through Prime Video.
It is clear that faith-based content has entered into a new era and explicitly Christian content can find success. SARAH’S OIL proves that audiences continue to crave this type of content over the immoral stories Hollywood normally produces.
