Tom Selleck says he’s not sure he’ll ever appear in BOSTON BLUE.

“I don’t know if I would do BOSTON BLUE,” the 80-year-old told Hour Detroit. “That’s another show.”

“I think it’s partly my lot in life to make sure BLUE BLOODS has its place in television history,” the Teddy Bear Award® winner explained. “But I don’t think it’s my lot in life to keep playing Frank Reagan.”

Selleck played Frank Reagan, a NYPD commissioner in BLUE BLOODS, from 2010 until it ended in 2024. The actor was sad and outspoken about the series’ end, the New York Post reported.

“It was a huge disappointment, and I still don’t know why CBS did it,” Selleck said. “If you get rid of the football, we were the sixth most popular series in all of television.”

Now, he’s ready for new roles.

“I don’t know where my next job will take me,” he said last year. “A good Western is always on my list. I miss that. I want to sit on a horse again.

“I would love to do another comedy. The right kind of comedy,” the star continued. “FRIENDS made people laugh and cry at times. That’s the kind of comedy I enjoy doing.”

Last year, he was open to starring in BOSTON BLUE.

“I’m open to suggestions, because I love Frank Reagan, but nobody’s really asked,” he said. “I don’t see him retiring and going off somewhere.”

Donnie Wahlberg, who played Reagan’s son in BLUE BLOODS and leads in BOSTON BLUE, is supportive of Selleck returning.

“He’s been very supportive,” Wahlberg said. “I can say, would I love for Tom to come up to Boston? Sure. Or would I love Danny to go to New York and visit Frank? Absolutely, yes.”

Though Selleck hasn’t starred in anything since BLUE BLOODS, his fame has only increased. His 1984 thriller, RUNAWAY, has had a resurgence, per Collider. This week, the movie went to No. 1 on the iTunes charts and has been the most in-demand title in the UK and Ireland for several days.

Those close to Selleck said he’s relaxing after BLUE BlOODS.

“Tom’s finally taking his foot off the gas, and it’s a huge comfort to everyone who cares about him,” a source said in July. “For years, he was go-go-go around the ranch, tearing around on his ATV, and taking on projects like he was still in his 40s, but these days, he’s embracing a much more low-key routine.”

But another source said, “Tom is happiest when he is working. He does not view acting as a chore or something he has to do just for the money, it invigorates him.”

There’s been talk of another JESSE STONE movie, but nothing is confirmed to be in the works yet. One thing is for sure though: Selleck does want to be back on the screen again.
