Christian Rapper Drops His First Album After Four-Year Break

By Michaela Gordoni

Andy Mineo is finally back with another album, The And, after four years.

“One year ago, we dropped an experimental project with zero expectations,” Mineo told Relevant. “Just something we loved, released for free on YouTube. Since then, we went back in, cleared what we could, re-worked what we couldn’t…and now, on its one-year anniversary, we’re finally delivering the official version to every platform.”

His project was a video called For Promotional Use Only. He didn’t know what would come out of it, but it turns out that’s a new album.

“We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it. Plus… there might be a few new songs to go with it.”

The And’s track list includes:

  1. Isamu’s Circle
  2. Regular
  3. Okayyy We Back (feat. Mark Morrison)

  5. More Lost Than Found
  6. Heaven’s Door
  7. Play Along (feat. Blaine Taylor)
  8. Grateful Ray’s Interlude
  9. Forever (feat. Jon Keith)
  10. Red Room (Freestyle)
  11. I Swear, This Is Not an André 3000 Diss Song
  12. Watch This

His pause on making music caused him to reassess the business side of music.

“I wanted to make sure that in the second half of my career, I understand what I’m getting into and how the music business actually works,” he told us.

Earlier this summer, he left his label, Reach Records, to become an independent rapper. He’s had projects with Reach since he signed in 2011, Rapzilla reported.

“I’m excited about the new era. It’s going to be the first time I release music as an independent artist,” Mineo said at the time.

“Before, I’d go into the studio and just make whatever I was feeling in the moment,” he said in July. “Now, I’ve got folders — ‘gym songs,’ ‘reflective songs,’ ‘spiritual songs,’ ‘boom bap rap songs.’ I know what I want to make, who I want to collaborate with and what kind of record I’m chasing. That clarity makes everything more exciting.”

His creative drive is even more defined now.

“These are the types of songs that I make and I want to specifically go search that out,” Mineo said. “I have a clear understanding now of what I do and the type of art that I make.”

His new album acknowledges that life isn’t always what we want it to be.

It’s “just a little bit messier and not as linear as we like to make it out,” he said.

The And, which came out last weekend, is already No. 6 on Spotify’s Nov. 28-30 Top Albums list.
