Actress, author and speaker Priscilla Shirer says there’s a cost to living with bold faith.

“So, I think it’s important that we talk a little bit about the fact that there is going to be — you know, Christ himself made no qualms about it — there’s going to be a cost for our faith,” Shirer declared in an episode of the “Full Fledged” podcast. “But I think it’s very sobering to remind ourselves that whatever it is costing us, which sometimes it’s a relationship, because somebody can’t go with you to the full level of surrender that you’re choosing in your relationship with Christ.”

The topic of conversation comes from Luke 9:23, which reads, “Then he said to them all: ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.'”

“Sometimes it costs you a little bit of your pride because people talk about you or whatever, they’re like, ‘It doesn’t take all that,’ and you’re like, ‘No, actually, it does.’ So it costs you some of your pride,” the OVERCOMER actress explained. “Sometimes it costs you being marginalized a bit. Like there could be a group of people that are your co-workers on your job, and they are naturally not going to include you when they go out, when they have a party, because they know the kind of party it is.”

She explained that because of a believer’s convictions, which nonbelievers recognize, a Christian might not get invited to join in certain activities.

“So there is a cost if you’re going to be bold in your faith,” Shirer emphasized.

However, Shirer made it very clear that although there is a cost to faith in America, there are many people in other places around the world who experience unimaginable persecution for following Jesus.

“But the reality is, it is sobering to remember there are other people your same age, who look just like you, who are experiencing similar things that you’re experiencing, but the cost for them is exponential to what you will ever, ever have to deal with,” she said.

Shirer, who has 2 million followers on Instagram, often posts about faith.

In a recent post, she encouraged parents to teach their children what God says.

“In a world full of voices telling our kids who they are, we must boldly declare the truth of who God says they are,” she wrote, adding Proverbs 22:6: “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

In another podcast episode, Shirer and her son, JC, discussed how a Christian should approach life’s storms.

“Yes, we can pray, “Lord, remove this difficulty,” but as long as the Lord allows that thing or that issue — that difficulty, that drama — to remain in our lives, as long as He allows it, then the prayer also has to be, ‘Lord, would you allow me to steward this well as long as you got me in it? Would you remind me every day by your Holy Spirit you’ve allowed this for a reason?'” she described.

When we are bold in our faith, we will be treated differently — but that’s the cost of following Jesus, and it’s well worth it.
