THE CHOSEN creator Dallas Jenkins shared his thoughts on what it means to pray for healing amid his wife’s and daughter’s health issues.
“The thing that I think people need to hear, and this is why your film is so important, is that they think that the biggest miracle would be the healing,” Jenkins said during an episode of Nick Vujicic’s “No Limbs No Limits” podcast. “The best thing would be the healing. That’s what they’re praying for because that’s what they think would be the number one.”

Amanda Jenkins was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy. It is reported she is now doing well. The couple’s daughter suffers from Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, which has caused her to experience chronic pain for the last seven years.
Jenkins shared that many people have asked if they could pray for his wife and daughter and, while he appreciates it, said it’s important to think about what kind of healing you’re praying for.
“Of course they’re well-intentioned, of course it’s beautiful and of course they should pray for healing,” he explained. “But also praying for life change because of the suffering. Praying for faith in the midst of suffering. That’s the thing that I wish people were more willing to accept, is that if the healing doesn’t come, can I still be close to God, can I still trust Him?”
Jenkins continued, “Physical healing isn’t always the best thing. It’s not always the number one miracle. It’s not always the thing that will impact the most people or change the most hearts…That’s a theology that I think more people need to not only understand but embrace and love.”
THE CHOSEN creator previously spoke about Amanda’s diagnosis. In an interview with The Christian Post, Jenkins shared, “I believe spiritual warfare is real. The enemy does not want this show to succeed. But I also believe God has His hand in it.”
He also pointed out that the phrase “God never gives you more than you can handle” isn’t always true.
“God oftentimes intentionally gives you more than you can handle so that you can lift your hands to Him and say, ‘I need you.’ That’s been this whole experience,” he said.
In a 2024 conversation with Crosswalk, Amanda discussed their daughter’s chronic illness, saying, “We have a daughter who’s chronically ill. And so it’s really a double whammy of suffering. Because it’s hard for me that I’m watching her suffer, and I can’t stop it. And [God’s] not stopping it. And so what seems loving to me as her mom is not the thing He’s choosing, but He is love.”
“Ultimately, when you’re stuck in grief for a long enough period of time, it takes a long time to start seeing His choices as being better than ours. It takes a long time to see the fruit of His choices sometimes,” she finished.
Jenkins’ reflections are a powerful reminder what God wants to teach us through suffering.
