‘A Miracle’: Brandon Lake Shares Testimony Behind Hit Song
By Movieguide® Contributor
Christian artist Brandon Lake is sharing a powerful part of his testimony as he reflects on the meaning behind his 2023 song “Miracle Child.”
“My parents had six miscarriages,” he said during an interview with The JOY FM. “They had three before me [and] got to the point before me [where] they were like, ‘Alright, you should probably stop trying.’ But my mom, she’s like, ‘I know God promised me I’m going to be a mama. It’s who He made me to be.’ Then I came along, and then they had a few more between my brother and my sister.”
He decided to tell that story in “Miracle Child.”
“I just walked in the studio one day and was like, ‘That’s a powerful part of my testimony I’ve never actually ever shared,” Lake explained. “The fact that I’m alive is a miracle, but I wanted it to be broad enough that other people could find themselves in this story. There’s some lines that kind of hint to my story, like, I shouldn’t be alive, defied every diagnosis kind of thing. I had some crazy things happen when I was young. I got a really rare disease, and I’ve actually never told anyone that, either. It was a super weird thing, and luckily, it wasn’t very long. I was healed of it, but yeah, just different things, but spiritually, obviously, I shouldn’t be alive. I don’t deserve grace, but God’s that good.”
He called it “a testimony song,” adding, “I hope it blesses a lot of people, specifically moms that are struggling, but anybody that could identify [with it], or maybe it helps them realize that we’re all miracles.”
The singer-songwriter has previously spoken about the story behind “Miracle Child,” telling Air 1, “I’m thankful my mom trusted God and persevered, because of that I am alive. My parents experienced six miscarriages, and that’s why I can say confidently today that I am a ‘miracle child.’”
“I wrote this song from that place,” he continued. “I pray it gives you faith to know that nothing is impossible for God.”
Lake’s latest project is single “Hard Fought Hallelujah,” which was released earlier this year.
