Hollywood actress China Anne McClain announced that she is leaving the CW show BLACK LIGHTNING to pursue “God’s work.”

“All this is an illusion. It’s an illusion. This industry for what it is and everything people look to and praise, it’s not important,” McClain said on social media. “God is moving me in more than one way than just this show. It’s bigger than just this show. I’m doing God’s work now and I’m not doing anything else. I’m just gon’ put it plainly.”

The 22-year old star made the announcement through a video shared on her Instagram. Her statement came after news dropped that CW planned to cancel the superhero series following season four. McClain confirmed the cancelation but added that she had plans to leave the show whether it continued or not.

McClain, a Georgia native, also noted that the pandemic changed her perspective.

“I’m not leaving because I had a terrible time working at the CW,” McClain noted. “People that know me, they know why I make the decisions I make. They also know I never make a single one of them to hurt anyone or to affect anyone negatively. But I am doing God’s work now and that is all I’m doing. I don’t know why I was wasting time before.”

McClain continued to say that she felt called by God to move in a different direction.

“When He calls I’m going to follow,” McClain said through tears. “I don’t care where He leads me, I don’t care if it’s in the middle of Timbuktu somewhere living off of a couple of pennies and a dime for the rest of my life with my family doing missionary work… I would leave all of this behind, I just made it to this point of my life now, during this quarantine.”

McClain said that she hopes to share God-honoring projects with people from here on out. she wants to be a part of the change and “live her life awake.”

“We need the Spirit again, in these projects,” McClain said. “I don’t know where it’s gone… I want to live my life awake, and understand what the truth is, because there’s only one. There’s only one truth, and I’m gonna live in it for the rest of my life.”
