ALONG FOR THE RIDE is a new romance on Netflix about two teenagers who have insomnia and stars Belmont Cameli, Emma Pasarow, and Kate Bosworth.

“The summer before college Auden meets the mysterious Eli, a fellow insomniac. While the seaside town of Colby sleeps, the two embark on a nightly quest to help Auden experience the fun, carefree teen life she never knew she wanted,” the synopsis read on IMDb.

Movieguide® sat down with Cameli, Pasarow, and Bosworth to discuss their roles in the movie.

Bosworth said that her real-life experience of being a stepmother helped in her role as Heidi.

“I’ve been a real stepmom for about 11 years… the reason why I took this role is because I felt so aligned with Heidi,” she said.

Bosworth also called out Hollywood’s portrayal of the evil, overbearing stepmother figure found in movies and commended ALONG FOR THE RIDE for its portrayal.

“We’ve seen so many versions of step moms where they’re like evil sort of people and it’s such a lovely message to be able to put in the world that there are those of us, those step moms of us, who only want for the health and happiness of the kid,” she said.

“For Eli, it’s a journey of rediscovery where for Auden, it’s a journey of discovering something new about herself,” Cameli, who plays Eli, said. “Through their relationship, they both are learning a lot about themselves and overcoming obstacles that arise from their past, which is kind of the beauty of their relationship, that they hold that mirror up to one another, and are able to, through their relationship, work through these things together.”

“I felt deeply connected to Auden,” Pasarow added. “I’m definitely a perfectionist like Auden is and I’m fearful of making mistakes. And at times, that’s been at the expense of trying new things. But it was such what was so special about this movie is going to do the movie was this really big, scary experience imposter syndrome, like constantly in my brain. And so as Auden is going through your journey, I feel like this making this movie was similarly, that for me too.”
