Don’t Miss These First-Look Photos of Amazon’s HOUSE OF DAVID

By Movieguide® Contributor

HOUSE OF DAVID releases in two months, and the Wonder Project just revealed a first look at photos from the new series.

The pictures posted to Instagram show David, played by Michael Iskander, swinging a stone in his battle against Goliath, played by Martyn Ford. Other photos include Goliath with a large shield, David being anointed and an army riding into battle.

The series, directed by Jon Erwin, Jon Gunn, Alexanda La Roche and Michael Nankin, sees “the ascent of the biblical figure, David, who eventually becomes the most renowned and celebrated king of Israel.”

“The series follows the once-mighty King Saul as he falls victim to his own pride,” the synopsis continues. “At the direction of God, the prophet Samuel anoints an unlikely, outcast teenager as the new king. As Saul loses his power over his kingdom, David finds himself on a journey to discover and fulfill his destiny, navigating love, loss, and violence in the court of the very man he’s destined to replace. As one leader falls, another must rise.”

Season 1 of the show will debut on Feb. 27 on Prime Video.

Church Leaders said, “When the series debuts in February, the first three episodes will be available immediately, followed by weekly releases of subsequent episodes.”

HOUSE OF DAVID marks the early stages of the Wonder Project’s partnership with Amazon to bring faith-based content to fans.

Though a secular company, Prime Video’s interest in faith-based content is understandable given the recent track record of Christian projects. THE CHOSEN and SOUND OF FREEDOM have both proven that there is a wide audience interest in faith-based projects that can provide blockbuster returns without a notable budget.

The recent success of faith-based content also encouraged Erwin to fulfill his dream of creating The Wonder Project. Propelled by the genre’s current popularity, The Wonder Project is a banner Erwin hopes will be an enduring name in entertainment that consistently delivers quality faith-based content.

The studio’s next project? Another faith-based project called IT’S NOT LIKE THAT.

“IT’S NOT LIKE THAT follows Lori, who is freshly divorced with two teens. Malcolm’s a minister and recently widowed dad of three,” the synopsis reads. “Their families once did everything together, but now Lori and Malcolm must navigate their newly minted singledom, parenthood and the complexities of Malcolm being a modern-day minister. Is this the beginning of a love story? It’s not like that. Or is it?”

The series is currently cast-contingent.
