Angel Studios and Wonder Project partnered to celebrate America’s first president with an upcoming biopic titled YOUNG WASHINGTON.
“YOUNG WASHINGTON chronicles the origins of America’s first president. After making a tremendous mistake that triggers the French and Indian War, an ambitious 22-year-old George Washington must face his failures and find the courage to become the leader that will forge a nation,” the movie’s synopsis reads, per a press release.
For Wonder Project’s Jon Erwin (JESUS REVOLUTION), who directs YOUNG WASHINGTON, the movie is a dream come true.
“I’ve dreamed of telling the powerful origin story of George Washington for nearly a decade. It’s a story of a true pioneer, which makes it the perfect project to partner on with the pioneers at Angel and their world-class distribution network,” the HOUSE OF DAVID director said, adding, “YOUNG WASHINGTON isn’t just a film — it’s a celebration of the American spirit and the miracle of the forging of our nation.”
Angel Studios President Jordan Harmon said, “Our shared commitment to inspirational, powerful storytelling made YOUNG WASHINGTON an easy project to partner on with Wonder. George Washington helped shape our nation and so many of the American values we hold dear.”
The film will release July 4, 2026, which Harmon called a “meaningful way to celebrate America’s 250th birthday.”
“We’re proud to partner with Angel Studios in offering tickets for YOUNG WASHINGTON a full year ahead of its release, giving families and communities across the country the opportunity to come together and experience this powerful celebration of America’s first founder,” added Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten, CEO of Wonder Project.
Erwin wants Americans to get excited for the movie, saying on Instagram, “I’m really inviting the audience to come along on the journey of making the movie.”

“The next Fourth of July is the 250th anniversary of our nation, and that’s when this movie comes out. We’re inviting you to be a part of this revolution the whole time that we make it,” he continued as he stood in front of Washington’s Mount Vernon home.
Erwin revealed that he will head to set soon. Casting has yet to be announced.
Chip Diggans will produce alongside Erwin. 10 Ton Productions, led by Benton Crane, and 2521 Entertainment, led by Tyler Zacharia, join Wonder Project on the production side. Angel Studios will distribute YOUNG WASHINGTON in theaters worldwide, The Wrap said.
As America celebrates its 250th birthday, remembering those who founded our great nation is the perfect way to honor the United States’ legacy.
