These Videos Share Scripture With Millions: ‘The Bible Will Save Us’

By Movieguide® Contributor

BibleProject, an organization that shares scripture through videos and podcast episodes, is reaching millions around the world.

“None of us were smart enough to think we would create this big nonprofit out of this,” Michael McDonald, Chief Global Focus and Strategic Relationships Officer at BibleProject, told CBN. “This really was a passion project of two friends who thought, ‘I think this would be helpful to not only just us, but some of our friends.’”

McDonald is referring to BibleProject’s creators, Tim Mackie and Jon Collins, who launched the then-animation project in 2014. Now, BibleProject boasts “over 180 videos and 350 podcast episodes over the internet, with over 620 million views in over 200 countries, and over five million subscribers worldwide,” per CBN.

“The crowd just caught up so fast in not only watching the videos but wanting more of them,” McDonald explained. “And they started helping fund them just with, you know, five bucks here, ten bucks there. And then we had enough funds to make another video and away we went.”

“From videos and podcasts, to classes and reading plans, we’re energized by reimagining how people can discover the beauty of the Bible from its first page to its last. We still can’t believe we get to do this work — and it feels like we’re just getting started,” the site concluded.

Collins shared, “One thing we think God is doing is that He’s helping people see the Bible as a really important part of their life. And what we think our contribution to that is, is helping people see the Bible through this paradigm of Biblical theology, where you appreciate the Bible and its literary design and you understand the Bible as a story and you see how the story leads to Jesus.”

In an interview with Christianity Today, Collins said he and Mackie’s end goal is “to change the church’s paradigm about the Bible. We want people to enter that story and let it shape how they view the world.”

“I’ve seen how much beauty there is in the story of the Bible,” he continued. “It tells the truth…I want the story of the Bible to get out. I want others to fall in love with it. I want it to influence every aspect of modern life. I truly believe that the message of Jesus in the Bible will save us. It will recreate our lives.”
