Christian influencer Brittany Lutz took a moment to share “some honest thoughts and reflections from January,” opening up about different struggles she faced and lessons she learned.

“Despite the warmth that lasted well into January, this winter has probably been the hardest on me,” she began. “I haven’t stopped being homesick for Orange County since we moved almost 3 years ago and I keep thinking it will subside or lessen, but it hasn’t and it’s discouraging sometimes.”

Lutz, who is the wife of TWILIGHT actor Kellan Lutz, continued by saying that she misses “weather that allows for more creativity in dressing and places you can go.”

But the weather isn’t her biggest struggle. Lutz explained how she had been in trauma therapy.

“I’ve been in trauma therapy for just over three months now and I can say that the more I work on cleaning up my soul, the less I feel like my house has to be perfect,” she explained. “I’m realizing that the pressure I put on myself to keep the house clean was because when it was messy it reflected the internal mess going on and I didn’t want to look at it.”

1 Peter 5:7 speaks to feelings like these, saying, “Cast all your anxiety on him [Jesus] because he cares for you.” Sometimes dealing with our issues and “casting” them away is one of the best things we can do.

“Facing hard things head on has been SO hard and also the most liberating thing I’ve ever done in my life,” Lutz continued. “I’ve never felt more undone and messy yet free and weightless at the same time.”

Not only is Lutz working on herself, but she and her husband Kellan have been putting hard work into their marriage.

“Kellan and I have been in therapy to learn how to love each other even better 10 years in and we have never been healthier and happier,” she explained, adding “why wouldn’t you see someone who could help you nourish your most important relationships better?”

Through the ups and downs of last month, though, Lutz wanted to communicate an important message to her followers.

“Life is less about ‘becoming’ the version of yourself that you want to be, but rather undoing a lot of the things that were done to you and that you did to yourself and getting back to the core of how and who God created you to be,” she said.

She concluded, “Even with the craziness happening every day all around, I am so full of hope for the future. What you focus on your life will follow and what you look for you will find. So I’m focusing on Jesus and looking for the ways He is moving and every day. And I can say with 100% certainty that His spirit is moving and humanity isn’t a lost cause.”

No matter what she faces, Lutz remains rooted in her faith.

“One thing that you will probably pick up on quickly is how important my relationship with Jesus is to me,” she explains on her website. “From singleness, to body issues, to stillbirth and loss, He has been my rock and gotten me through it all, not only happy and whole, but THRIVING!”

While the New Year may not have started how you wanted, let Lutz’s reflections remind you that God is always working, no matter the circumstances.
