Brandon Lake says God’s hand is at work in the rising popularity of contemporary Christian music.

“I feel great, I feel so honored,” Lake said of his two Grammy nominations this year. “It’s just a dream come true and it just feels like God’s favor, so I’m very grateful.”

The artist also weighed in on the growing popularity of contemporary Christian music with young people, saying, “I think the lines are being blurred between Christian and country. I just think God’s trying to infiltrate every genre.”

“The darker that it gets — and we’re in a dark season — the brighter the light is gonna shine, and I think people are just so desperate for truth and authenticity and something that’s real, and there’s nothing more real than God,” Lake continued.

He expressed his desire to see Christian music topping the pop music charts again but added that there is some work to be done.

“I believe our message is the most powerful message, but I think we need to dig a little bit deeper lyrically and try to present something with excellence,” Lake said. “I want to see our industry leading again.”

Lake recently collaborated with one of pop music’s biggest new stars, country singer Jelly Roll. The duo are duetting on an upcoming version of Lake’s “Hard Fought Hallelujah.”

“The first time I heard ‘Hard Fought Hallelujah,’ I haven’t had a record touch me like that in so long,” Jelly Roll said in an Instagram video. “It’s been years since I worshiped the way that I worshiped to that song. Because I carry my faith with me, but I’m also struggling, and very honest and open about that.”

He added, “I believe music meets us where we are. I needed that record when I heard it, but then to double back and be like, ‘Yo, there’s a chance you could work on this record with this guy,’ and I’m like, ‘Whoa, God sent me the record for me.’ Not only does He want me to listen to it and worship, He wants me to live with it and learn.”

Lake spoke about the song’s inspiration to CCM Magazine, explaining, “I wanted to give my fans a taste of something special while on the road. This song is about the battles we face, the grit throughout the fight for faith and the praise that comes after. I hope it resonates deeply with everyone.”
