Rookie Commanders QB Trusted ‘In the Lord’ During First NFL Playoff

On Sunday night, the Washington Commanders won their first playoff game since 2005, and that’s thanks, in larger part, to quarterback Jayden Daniels.
“Daniels did not look like a rookie playing his first playoff game,” ESPN said. “He completed 24 of 35 passes for 268 yards and two touchdowns. He rushed for another 36 yards on 13 carries. He also made plays he could not make in the season-opening loss to Tampa because of one big change: He kept his eyes downfield when he scrambled. It resulted in key plays, such as a 9-yard completion to tight end Zach Ertz on a third-and-6 from the Commanders’ own 12-yard line.”
When the game concluded, NBC Sports asked Daniels, “You are a rookie quarterback; you come here on the road, your first playoff starts so calm, so poised. How?”
“Man, trust in the Lord God,” he responded. “You know, there’s nothing I should worry about. Man, put all my worries on Him, and, you know, He’ll take care of the rest.”

The game ended with a field goal but not before “Daniels took a knee at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 19-yard line, setting up a 37-yard attempt,” the Commanders reported.
The pivotal play of the game was when “Washington went for it on fourth down. This time it was from the Tampa 5-yard line with 9:46 left. The Commanders had failed on a fourth-and-goal from the 3, but this time Daniels connected with receiver Terry McLaurin for the touchdown and 20-17 lead. It was McLaurin’s 11th red zone touchdown catch of the season; he had 11 in his first five years combined. The drive was set up by linebacker Bobby Wagner’s fumble recovery at the Tampa 13.”
