Disney+ Mobile App Sees 74% Download Increase with HAMILTON Release

The Disney+ app saw a substantial number of increased downloads this past holiday weekend as HAMILTON hit the streaming service in honor of July Fourth.
According to Variety, the app was downloaded 752,451 times globally with 458,796 of those downloads coming from the U.S from Friday, July 3, to Sunday, July 5.
Disney Plus app downloads were up 74% compared to all four weekends in June.
Worldwide downloads of the popular streaming service app were up 46.6% this weekend as well compared to the previous four weekends during the same time period.
The data doesn’t account for Disney+ subscriptions that were purchased through smart TVs.
Movieguide® previously reported that Disney no longer offers a free seven day trial, which was announced shortly before the HAMILTON release.
Movieguide®’s review of HAMILTON states that the movie musical has a Christian, moral, patriotic worldview. However, it also contains some politically correct elements and foul language.
The movie is a “live” version of the hit Broadway musical from Lin Manuel Miranda, which was supposed to have a theatrical release next year. However, with the coronavirus pandemic, the movie was moved to Disney+ a year ahead of schedule.
The Walt Disney Company continues to move more content to their new streaming service, nixing the three Disney Channels in the U.K.

The direct-to-consumer service, which garnered more than 54.5 million subscribers worldwide in its first seven months, will now premiere all the latest films, series and specials from the three Disney Channels, along with offering a rich and expansive back catalogue of Disney Channel titles in the U.K., including Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Descendants 3 and Phineas and Ferb.
