Faith Takes to the Field at CFP National Championship Game

Ohio State and Notre Dame will face off tonight in the College Football Playoff National Championship game, putting each team’s love and zeal for the Lord on display.
“We’re the two main teams to just publicly display our faith the most,” Notre Dame quarterback Riley Leonard said. “I don’t know if this is some divine teaching that put us here, but I truly believe that Jesus was looking over both our shoulders throughout the season and put these two teams on a pedestal for a reason.”
Leonard isn’t the only one who gives credit to the Lord.
Notre Dame cornerback Christian Gray added, “I feel like my mission is to share the glory of God for others and tell kids you can do the same thing.”

Likewise, Ohio State has continued its mission of faith all season long.
Buckeyes running back TreVeyon Henderson wrote on X, “We don’t have to be afraid to come to Jesus, He knows what we have done and He still chose to die for you and me, because He loves us. Put your faith in Jesus and He will save you from sin and give you new and eternal life. Don’t be afraid, follow Jesus.”
He then quoted several Bible verses from Luke 5:8, 10b-11:
When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!” And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid. From now on you will catch men.” So when they had brought their boats to land, they forsook all and followed Him.

Defensive end Jack Sawyer also told ESPN after the Buckeyes won the Cotton Bowl that “God’s blessed this team with so much ability. We wouldn’t be here without [God], so we give him all the credit first and foremost.”
Head coach Ryan Day echoed his players, saying, “We were called to be bold.”
“I think when you look at what they’ve done together as a group, they rub off on each other, and that part of it — that’s their own business that they handle, but I think when you start to see and hear some of the messages that some of our team is giving, not only out in the community but to our own team on campus…you just recognize what unbelievable guys we have in our locker room,” Day said after an on-campus worship event.
