How Family-Friendly Comedy CAMP HIDEOUT Emphasizes Moral, Biblical Values

By Cooper Dowd, Movieguide® Staff

Producer Jason Lee Brown and director Sean Olson recently teamed up under Called Higher Studios for the family-friendly comedy, CAMP HIDEOUT.

Described as a cross between a summer camp adventure and HOME ALONE slapstick comedy, Jason and Sean expressed their excitement for families to watch their new movie in Theaters on Sept. 15.

“CAMP HIDEOUT was a movie that we knew was going to be very kid-focused,” Jason told Movieguide®. “It’s ERNEST GOES TO CAMP meets HOME ALONE.There’s a lot of physical comedy, a lot of stunts… a lot of hijinks.”

Sean added: “It was something that really spoke to me too. Jason came up with a fantastic idea. Summer camp is something that meant a lot to me growing up. Nostalgia is just hitting you all over the place.”

A portion of Movieguide®’s review reads:

CAMP HIDEOUT has some really funny scenes. Some of the funniest scenes occur when the camp’s children use HOME ALONE tactics to frustrate the two adult thieves. The acting is really good in CAMP HIDEOUT, with wholesome themes and a strong Christian, moral, uplifting worldview. Noah changes his ways, and the movie has references to church, the Bible, prayer, and crucifixes.

Jason and Sean agreed that it was their goal to create believable physical comedy, but to also emphasize important themes for children.

“The journey that Noah goes on, and the things that he learns from the other counselors, and the messages that he hears… he finds out that he is not alone in the world,” Sean said. “I think that was something that really kind of hit me; watching him change in the movie.”

“This movie is going to be fun for the entire family,” Jason continued. “But parents can go in the other room and not have to worry about what their kids are watching because of the themes that we’ve embedded in this movie; like belonging and friendship and unconditional love. There’s a faith element, also in the movie. Those are values that I think all kids need to see, and all kids need to hear.”

Through Called Higher Studios, Jason hopes to offer parents and families more content that upholds moral and biblical values.

“There’s no shortage of content out there that is trying to teach your kids unethical values, cuss words, things of that nature,” Jason explained. “Either they have an agenda, or they’re trying to indoctrinate kids, there’s no shortage of that content that exists. We wanted to be the counterculture to that and actually not just talk about it, we wanted to put it into action and go make something.”

“This is a movie that kids are gonna have a great time, they’re gonna laugh, it’s gonna be hysterical,” he added. “But at the end of the day, you’re gonna be able to have conversations, and you’re going to learn about faith, you’re going to learn about unconditional love, you’re gonna learn about friendship, you’re gonna learn about all the good stuff that that we [adults] got to learn about through good-values-driven content.”

CAMP HIDEOUT is set to release in theaters on Sept. 15. More information about the movie can be found here.
