NBA Star Proclaims ‘God Has Been Good to Me’ After Sunday Night Win

Orlando Magic’s Jonathan Isaac credited all of his success to God at his triumph game against the 76ers last week.

“It’s your first double-double since 2019. Think about all you’ve been through, and you needed every one of those rebounds here tonight, J.I.,” an interviewer told the athlete after the game.

“If I think about it too hard, I’m gonna cry, but God has been good to me. Better to me than I’ve been to Him. So I’m grateful for His grace, His mercy and His love,” the forward said. “And I’ll just keep going at it.”

After the game, Isaac pointed his Instagram followers toward Christ.

He said, “I know I His Son…As hard as it is, Truer words have never been said, Think on the good… ❤️🙏🏽✝️”

Isaac even tries to share the gospel with his shoe line, Unitus. His athletic shoes feature verses on the heel tabs, like Romans 8:31: “What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”

Last August, Isaac spoke at Liberty University’s convocation ceremony.

“I put everything that I had into creating this identity as a basketball player, to the point that I was the No. 1 player in the state of Florida, but what nobody knew was that I was struggling so much behind the scenes with anxiety,” Isaac told Liberty’s students. “This thing on the inside of me was growing. The more and more people expected of me, the higher I got as a basketball player, I was having this dichotomy of working so hard for love and trying so hard not to lose it by playing badly.”

“For me, it speaks to the reality of having a relationship with Jesus Christ,” he added. “Finding my identity, my strength, my confidence, my purpose, and my trust in Him, and allowing Him to lead my life for moments like the bubble, moments that I’m known for.”

He encouraged Liberty students to stand strong in their faith in Christ.

“God is trying to equip each and every one of you with purpose, and you’re going to carry out something for the Kingdom of God,” he said. “It’s going to be a stand in one way or another, if it’s before the Lord or in your everyday life, and you’re going to have to do it or you will not be who God has created you to be.”
