Kendrick Brothers Jump on the Pickleball Bandwagon: ‘Don’t Expect Much’

By Movieguide® Contributor

The Kendrick Brothers hosted a “Kendrick Family Pickleball Tournament” last week that involved many shenanigans and laughs.

In a video posted on the brother’s Facebook page, the two were seen at a pickleball facility while on vacation.

“We’re on vacation as families, and we’re about to play pickleball,” Stephen Kendrick said. “We’re starting a forge on the pickleball court,” Alex Kendrick added, referencing their upcoming movie THE FORGE.

“Just to let you know how good I am, I watched a video on the way over here to find out the rules as to how to play,” Stephen said. “Don’t expect much.”

The video highlighted the family fun as their kids narrated the games and interviewed each other. One person, not part of their family, asked if they were a church group. “Just family, big family,” one of their daughters said.

Towards the end of the video, Alex and Stephen faced against one another with their wives as their partners.

Let’s just say even more shenanigans occurred.

“They took us,” Stephen said as he lost to his brother and sister-in-law.

Another family vacation tradition is the “Kendrick Family Film Festival” where their kids create short films that their moms then judge.

“We just got together and watched about 10 short films done this week on vacation, and they’re funny, and they’re creative, and we love it,” Alex said. “We love watching our kids just bloom.”

The brothers’ family vacation is coming just before the release of their new movie THE FORGE, which hits theaters Aug. 16.

“Isaiah Wright has some growing up to do. A year out of high school with no plans for his future, Isaiah is challenged by his single mom and a successful businessman to start charting a better course for his life. Through the prayers of his mother and biblical discipleship from his new mentor, Isaiah begins to discover God’s purpose for his life is so much more than he could hope for or imagine,” a synopsis reads.

The movie stars Cameron Arnett, Priscilla Shirer, Karen Abercrombie and Aspen Kennedy.

Movieguide® recently reported on THE FORGE:

THE FORGE explores how having strong leaders can make an incredible impact. While this is true for all areas of life, it is especially true for faith, where having somebody to shepherd you through can be the difference between whether or not you form a relationship with Christ.

“[THE FORGE] is family-friendly, but it is intense and exciting. In some different places, it is an emotional roller coaster. There’s some funny humor that’s in the movie, but most importantly, it’s this call to discipleship—that we need to get busy about leading people into an abiding surrendered walk with Jesus because that’s the greatest thing in the world,” said Stephen Kendrick.

“We believe the Lord is going to stir up this focus in the body of Christ, and so we’re very grateful to have worked on a movie like this,” Alex Kendrick added. “It was challenging for us but edifying for the body of Christ because we need to be salt and light like never before.”
